I do it the same way with the bassnotes by Low-Passing the sample. Great trick.

It's a great technique cause you don't have shift cents to make the bass sit right...

Young Guru said he use to do it back in the day when mixing ...he would have a seperate channel with just low passed bass, compress it hard and blend it in ...

I personally cut out like half the bass of my sample so that the original bassline is still hearable but i can play some bassnotes in key with it.
Cause 2 basses usually don't mix well.

I don't literally replay the bassline always but put short bass-notes in key with like a long bass-note that's in the original sample.

Yeah he mainly did it when a seperate bass part was missing or sequenced off key or incorrectly...

He talked about it on Pensados Place...

I like high passing samples too where you get just hint of the old bass...then accent notes an octave below ...Dilla style...with a pure sine tone or Moog type filtered bass
