i'm too lazy to dig into it but i'm sure as far as football/basketball players and their knee injuries, muscle imbalances due to too many leg isolation exercises and not enough compound lifts plays a role

 This..... and Michael Thompson even stated that he wouldn't let Klay play B Ball all year round and put him in different sports just to work other muscles that weren't used in B Ball....

And just from a fitness standpoint... compound exercises>>> than isolation exercises

Workouts are more area specific. Too much stress may be being put on certain areas.

Diets are very strict for many athletes. Sometimes the "bad" foods are helpful.

I never see these Paul Pierce out of shape looking dudes tearing stuff. Linemen do, buy usually only when their legs bend the wrong way.

Detroit You bytch Ass nikka
You hooped in high school, and maybe afterwards on a high level.....? Also, are you over the age of 30?
I'm 28 and I have not been consistently athletically active since the 9th grade when I learned how to sell dope:yeshrug:.

Don't get me wrong, I can hoop, I'm far from a scrub, but I barely hoop 3-4 times a year. It's definitely from not overworking my body, but I NEVER stretch before doing anything and my diet is shytty as hell. I'm guessing my bones weRe not in good shape.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
I agree with Malta, it's similar to pitchers in baseball where you have high schoolers blowing their elbows out in every city and getting tommy john before they hit 18. too much volume and overexertion and not enough rest.

decades ago, players would take time off and just relax, but nowadays with AAU and club ball, shyt is damn near 365 if you're any good.

i'm too lazy to dig into it but i'm sure as far as football/basketball players and their knee injuries, muscle imbalances due to too many leg isolation exercises and not enough compound lifts plays a role but i'm not even trying to dig through any scientific studies/journals to support that so...:yeshrug:
i agree... it's basically a combination of putting too much stress on your body

these dudes, up until 20-30 years ago... was just fukking off, hitting the gym after practice and training camp, and busting their ass on the field.. you just look at older eras, nobody is built, all cut up, like now a days. maybe a slim few

nowadays 5th round draft pics are looking like the rock out here.. they been playing since 5.. year round sports, 2-3 sports.. by the time they hit middle school, they are already focus training, drinking proteins, taking supplements....

and by college/pro they have on season programs, off season, specialized doctors, hyperbolic chambers, special equipment, pads, shoes, gloves to make the body do this, that, and the other.. the workouts are harder, they got way more of them, these dudes are putting all types of shyt in their bodies.. and still working them hard 24/7 so that we now have qb's like kaep, looking bigger than linebackers of the 60s

but genetically we are the same humans we always been. we are just pushing ourselves (well they are) to the limit... and sometimes when you got the needle at the limit, you go over and POP

To much emphasis on squats etc, I am sure it has some negative impact! the Knee is taking so much pressure these days, dude's are squatting big weight then going out and jump cutting....I know sometimes it can't be helped but some of these injuries can be I believe.
