Who are the Knicks’ coaching options now?
With Steve Kerr out of the running, here’s a look at potential candidates for the Knicks’ head-coaching vacancy:

Phil Jackson: The Knicks team president has battled knee problems, but fiancée Jeanie Buss thought he should do it last month, and now that he’s lost Kerr …

Derek Fisher: Widely viewed as Jackson’s second choice as his former Laker and current Thunder guard is ready to retire. But is on record saying he wants to rest one year and not coach.

Jim Cleamons: Won nine titles as an assistant with Jackson in Chicago and Los Angeles.

Kurt Rambis: A triangle guru, he was a Lakers assistant this past season.

Bill Cartwright: Former Bulls big man is thought of as an assistant coach because he has medical issues with his throat.

Brian Shaw: Is it too late to beg Denver?

Mark Jackson: Had success in Golden State, but butted heads with management.

Tyronn Lue: The former Lakers point guard has been an assistant under Doc Rivers with the Celtics and now Clippers

Let Phil coach from a wheelchair at home-games :old: and skype him for away games.

Breh, besideds the fact that it's Isola using the tried and true "bring up Dolan, they'll believe anything negative if he's involved" route, do you feel Steve Kerr deserves the contract he just received from Golden State? Do you think he deserves the reported 5years $30million he wanted from NY?

Literally a couple days ago nikkas were complaining about the prospect of paying Kerr exactly what he just got paid by another team but now we're gonna put a negative spin on him not coming here? Someone help me process this cause I'm at a loss:skip:When we overpay for talent(something you nikkas have been complaining about for over a decade) it's on Dolan. When Phil shows patience and prudence in his first major negotiation in his tenure as Knicks president it's Dolan interfering:skip:If James Dolan is the reason we didn't give Steve Kerr 5years $25million then we have a lot more to worry about because that would mean Phil has no idea what he's doing and one of the worst owners in sports was the voice of reason.
:dahell: I ain't paying the man so what he deserves or what he doesn't deserve don't bother nor concern me one bit. The fact of the matter is, this is literally the one guy Phil has been interested in since firing Woody. He hasn't spoken nor interviewed or even hinted anyone else. He wanted Kerr. Why would he all of a sudden show patience and prudence if the only thing keeping him from getting the coach he wants is a guaranteed year. Doesn't make sense. We talking months of talking about this job with this guy. What does makes sense when it comes to not holding back on the guaranteed year, is Dolan feeling iffy. Now I totally agree with @Trip in that what it ultimately came down to for Kerr was the players, more certain situation, and location but everything else regarding the guaranteed year and the possibility of Dolan having an input is certainly plausible.

How do you know who he's spoken to?:what:
He believes Kerr, who played for him in Chicago and served as general manager of the Phoenix Suns, could be that person. He discussed Kerr's potential interest in coaching last year when a group was trying to buy the Sacramento Kings and move them to Seattle. Jackson was prepared to run their basketball operations if that happened.

He and Kerr spoke again earlier this year about basketball, so Jackson is comfortable they share the same view of how the game should be played.

"I know philosophically we have a strong connection. Whether he's able to take a job like this, I don't know," Jackson said. "I will get in a conversation with him later on this month and talk to him about and see where he's at as far as his desire to coach."

Jackson said he didn't have a timetable beyond wanting a coach in place before the July summer league. He has other candidates in mind, but said: "You don't want to know their names. I don't want you to have their names."
Jackson seeking Knicks coach, says it won't be him - US News

He's just the only one that they've been in negotiations with so far. Cats completely forget that Steve fukking Kerr is the one that started all this talk about being coveted by the Knicks in the first place. This was literally before Mike Woodson was fired:

Report: Kerr 'absolutely expects' to be offered Knicks job | FOX Sports on MSN

But now Kerr was the only one Phil wanted?:pachaha:Phil's been showing patience with this process since the beginning. The way this Kerr shyt blew up you'd think he'd be signed a week after Woodson was fired yet it's now a month later and Kerr is just now signing with a team. And again, since when has James Dolan and the New York Knicks been stingy about about years and money (waits for somebody to bring up Jeremy Lin

)? God forbid this franchise takes its time making important decisions for once.

I think he was always going to have a heavy role in training and practice. I keep telling people Phils looking for an assistant coach who can operate during games as a HC. Meaning knowing when to call time outs, make substitutions, etc.

When it comes to the triangle/strategy and game planning that is all going to be phil

This is not good at all.

A puppet for Phil?. :patrice: Can't see any coaching taking that Assistant Head coach deal that easily.

tyron lue at least has put in some work as an assistant tho :yeshrug:
Walton was an assistant for the University of Memphis during the lockout and he was an assistant for the Lakers D-League team this year. Not saying he's ready for a head coaching job, but he does at least have a little coaching experience, unlike Kerr, Kidd or Jackson before they were hired. Granted of those guys Kerr and Jackson spent a long time in broadcasting.

I'm trying to understand the correlation broadcasting has to do with coaching. does this mean that marv albert or kevin harlan might be good coaches since they've been calling games for decades now.
