If EVERYDAY I went to a middle school playground during recess and proceeded to jump in their pick up basketball game, all the while proceeding to bytch them out for their lack of fundamentals, Bball IQ, and bigged up all my own accomplishments and experience in the game.....would that really make me a hoops oficianado?? Wouldn't I prefer to play with like minded peers? Or am I actually uncomfortable around my "peers"? Maybe my weak shyt don't play the same among them. Maybe playing with the 7th graders is good for my self esteem? I dunno. Just something I was thinking about.

There are a couple of observations I should make here:
1) I'm not jumping in your pickup game, I've been posting in Sohh/Coli Knicks threads since the site was neon green and Iron Monkey and that Texas Rapper that rooted for the mavs and got yoked by SWAT were alive.
2) "Bigging up" my experience in the sport isn't what makes you an 'oficianado' - it's context. I'm an aficionado because I love basketball, and have studied it and treated it with the respect it deserves.
3. I chop hoops up with my 'like minded peers' all the time. You only know me from the internet. But In real life, I've written for major publications and work in the news industry. In the small breaks I take at my desk... I mess around on this site, and laugh at people saying Michael Sam is ruining football, and that having a late first round pick is the same as having a lottery pick.... it's a nice change of pace from talking and debating with adults all day.
4. I don't get self esteem from The Coli. In fact, I see you guys rallying around your shared lack of basketball knowledge... and I'm happy you found each other. If I'm some type of unifying force for bad fans that can't remember the names of players on our own team, or what position somebody we just drafted plays... well, great! Great for you. I'm glad y'all have that camaraderie, yanno?


But I gotta see this quoted by somebody else with a laughing smiley, you don't want to put my handle in it? You ran with an analogy, but don't want to show it off to the guy it's about?

That seems kinda soft.
