I don't see why Melo has to opt out.
i wish. if they get better pg play next season and a decent head coach they'll make the playoffs. it wouldnt shock me if they even won a round, team has talent. then have 60+ mil in cap space to land melo with a combo of bron/love/aldridge/gasol and a first round pick.

seeing Chicago struggle so much hopefully plays in our favor. is he willing to take a chance on rose's knees after teaming with stat? especially when its only one year sooner than it would be in new york? decisions, decisions.

Knicks should encourage Melo to not opt out IMO...play out your contract...the roster isnt awful....new blood in the building next year behind the scenes....try and get the last ounce of ability out of Amare and him together....find an upgrade at PG and have at it.

Melo talks in circles though.
if you think paying a 34 year old Melo $23 mil is stupid, think about paying him another $23 mil the year after.

Melo's at a disadvantage if he opts in. He'd only be doing NY a favor.

You guys are not better without 'Melo, but if he walks, I believe you will be just fine. I didn't believe that before Phil showed up. Phil has acknowledged that you need a superstar and a second scorer. He has the rep that will bring in the talent needed. Players have already said they wanted to come to NY and are open to taking pay cuts. He also has an offense that's different than all other franchises. San Antonio has the same thing.

I agree with this, he would still get his 20+ mil for next year and can start the process in 015 of rebuilding around him....but like we know all these dudes are Divas and love the media being on their nuts

I can see where a person could think this. However, when you have multiple options, you never wanna walk away sayin' you didn't explore them. You never wanna have regret at any point and wonder how things would have been if you had at least heard them out.

how the f*ck would the knicks be fortunate to lose melo? :rudy:

all these sh*tty contracts on the knicks and NOW you wanna start counting pennies when it comes time to sign one of the top 3 scorers in the league?

if you can get him for less, great. if you can't then ante up. ya'll in here buggin the f*ck out man, knicks better pay this man his money.
you're sitting there acting like the only way the Knicks can win in the next few years is if Melo is on the team. Meanwhile teams like Indiana proved you can do it without having to indebt yourself to a single player. I've said since Melo announced that he wants to opt out....if he's gonna come back he needs to take a paycut.

Otherwise :camby:

He can still go that route after next season, we all know we're not gonna see the same team we saw this season going into next, so this gives Melo the chance to basically say Phil you have this season to show and prove...If he not digging the direction Phil going he can leave or hear out whatever another team talking, If he truly serious about winning a ship as a Knicks this would be the ideal situation

a good PG, a serviceable big man, and a strong, competent coaching staff and the knicks are right there in the championship hunt. the east is wide open.

or the knicks can let melo walk and go back to re-building for 3+ years.

stat is already getting 23 million next year, but yall don't wanna pay melo? :stopitslime: ya'll are wildin.
what does STAT have to do with anything? You acting like people haven't been a) clamoring for him to retire so his money comes off the books b) bytching that the Knicks didn't use the amnesty on him c) complaining about how the Knicks could give him so much money with those knees d) wishing there were some way to redistribute his money so that his salary could be lessened on a year to year basis

That's the thing tho homie....forget winning we've seen enough winning in the 90s, we trying have that Parade. Pacers cool, but they not winning the ship. MELO is our best chance, we just need to surround him with the right pieces..Dolan already got our cable bills high as hell that paycut shyt not that big of a deal we all know the Luxury tax means nothing to the Knicks they'll make it happen

What's with Phil asking him to take less?

Is it his way to run him out of town without looking like the bad guy?
Melo said he would take less if it would help the team win. And if we're being honest, him taking less gives the Knicks a better opportunity to put good pieces around him. If Melo's telling the truth, it's not a big deal and skirts the popular opinion that he's about money over winning while giving the Knicks a flexibility they're going to need after next season. If he's lying then he's probably gonna leave us anyway while asking us to sign & trade him to a better team.

Edit: Here...this pretty much sums it up

He's taking a cue from respectable organizations on how to win...you guys are trying to promote being the Knicks. It dont go hand in hand brehs

you're buggin or delusional if you think the Knicks are gonna put all that money into a potentially losing team. As much as I do believe a Knicks team with Melo can get into that contending team...that's as far as it goes. They're not going to win a title with Melo making Kobe money because he's not a Kobe type player. If you think the Knicks are winning a title with guys on mid-level exceptions and vet maxes you're crazy. We need a defensive big to replace Tyson...the only one I see us possibly getting would require us to trade Melo. We need a competent point.....are there any in the market that won't require us to drop top dollar for?

I'm trying to see this world where the Knicks pick up the pieces next season with Melo making that extra money...and frankly it doesn't exist. At least if he takes less money, and they trade away Tyson, Amar'e or Bargs it won't be a big detriment to 2015

Knicks have 3 expiring contracts, Big ones at that. Bron is a free agent in 015, Knicks will have no problems making moves

How many games we watched this season where, because of PG play or dumb coaching moves we lost and said if only we had better at those spots we would be good....The league is weak, it's no Elite teams in the league, look at this year playoffs the Knicks can compete next year easily by moving one of those expiring this summer

That leads into 015 where if Melo leave then so be it But we will be in a Good spot for Phil to what he do but Keeping Melo should always be priority #1 unless we confident we're getting somebody on his level... Kobe alwsysl had pieces around him

First of all....you made a distinction earlier between winning and winning a ship. You're telling me to watch the playoffs...that distinction is made up of San Antonio, Miami and OKC. Competent PG and coach is not putting us in that level. Don't be fooled because of a loss here or there...those are the teams the Knicks need to be in order to win a ring. Giving Melo that money alone doesn't get us there. Secondly, 3 expiring contracts is good...it's cool...you give Melo the max and you're still tying up MORE than half of the projected cap space on Melo, JR, Felton, Shump, Prigs and THJR. With good management you're looking at maybe one really good player and a few other good complementary pieces. He takes that paycut and you can convince Love/Aldridge and Rondo to build something in NY AND have a little money to spend on 1 or 2 more role players. 1 sounds like a plan for being in that contention role...the other sounds like a plan that you hope comes together
