I figure it's less street opposition/resistance and/or cops in those areas ain't as savy as the ones in the big cities
Been saying it for a while. Miami is basically California South. The way black ppl have been almost erased demographically. But just like CA, surrounding areas have gotten blacker as a result(South Broward). And nearby states(NC, Atlanta). Similar to IE, Vegas, Phx getting blacker from black ppl fleeing Los Angeles.Miami![]()
They ran Black folks the fukk outta there
Black California was massive at one point no? EPA, Oakland, Compton, Inglewood, Compton, all of south central, Vallejo, were these areas not all at least 40% black at one point? Tom Bradley becoming mayor of LA. CA didn’t have a lot of white ppl compared to the Eastcoast too. Because like you said, America started in the east. But everyone eventually headed west.California's black population naturally declined as the cost of living has skyrocketed, yes. But also, Black Californians have been part of the national New Great Migration since 1975:

New Great Migration - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org
The New Migration has seen scores of non-southern black families and persons return to the South. California is not close to being alone in this phenomenon. Our ancestral roots in this country, are in the South. Go to any major non-southern city, and its rare to find black families that have been there over 100 years. We are all from the South, many of us have elected to return...
That said, California was never that black in the first place, so i think people have to frame Black California in the proper context. The first black Californians didn't arrive until the settlement of San Francisco in 1775; this is 267 years after the first black man hit Puerto Rico in 1508, and 156 years after the first boats from Africa docked at Jamestown...
156 and 267 years is a long, long time. For reference, here in 2025 we are 160 years removed from abolishing slavery in the US. All the eastern states were well over a century and a half ahead in establishing and growing black community...
So when people talk about low percentages of black people in California, they gotta remember that the US was settled in The East, and settled a long time before we existed in CA. California was never gonna be as black as these eastern locations. Yet and still, the early foundings of SF, SJ, and LA as well as a few other smaller towns (Monterey for sure), black people were part of the settlement groups of these cities...
Its why I'm a STRONG advocate for black people staying in California. The South is nice, but everything that glitters isnt gold. We helped build California the same way we helped build everywhere else here...
According to the '23 ACS, there are 371,026 fewer black people in the US in '23, than in '20. So not a huge decline, but a decline nonetheless...
Phoenix is neck-and-neck with Vegas as the #2 West Coast black mecca...
