Man, Cali has some of the lowest percentages around the country. Used to be a higher number.

shyt got way too expensive and I’m guessing the increase in Asians and Mexicans.
California's black population naturally declined as the cost of living has skyrocketed, yes. But also, Black Californians have been part of the national New Great Migration since 1975:

The New Migration has seen scores of non-southern black families and persons return to the South. California is not close to being alone in this phenomenon. Our ancestral roots in this country, are in the South. Go to any major non-southern city, and its rare to find black families that have been there over 100 years. We are all from the South, many of us have elected to return...

That said, California was never that black in the first place, so i think people have to frame Black California in the proper context. The first black Californians didn't arrive until the settlement of San Francisco in 1775; this is 267 years after the first black man hit Puerto Rico in 1508, and 156 years after the first boats from Africa docked at Jamestown...

156 and 267 years is a long, long time. For reference, here in 2025 we are 160 years removed from abolishing slavery in the US. All the eastern states were well over a century and a half ahead in establishing and growing black community...

So when people talk about low percentages of black people in California, they gotta remember that the US was settled in The East, and settled a long time before we existed in CA. California was never gonna be as black as these eastern locations. Yet and still, the early foundings of SF, SJ, and LA as well as a few other smaller towns (Monterey for sure), black people were part of the settlement groups of these cities...

Its why I'm a STRONG advocate for black people staying in California. The South is nice, but everything that glitters isnt gold. We helped build California the same way we helped build everywhere else here...
That’s less than 12% the Black population even with the tethers is shrinking
According to the '23 ACS, there are 371,026 fewer black people in the US in '23, than in '20. So not a huge decline, but a decline nonetheless...
Interesting
Phoenix is neck-and-neck with Vegas as the #2 West Coast black mecca...

even though it’s probably some of the global rich world decline in population and we’re not nearly as bad off as the american white population as a whole those stereotypical multiple Single Moms and Baby daddies and the so called super high Black replacement theory Tether population hasn’t added to the Black Population and it’s counting before Trump got in so it should be more.

Even the Black Divestors with their million extra babies by other than Black Men hasn’t led to a gradual increase or even stabilization of our numbers overall.

The cost of living really impacts where Black people live.

Back during the first Great Migration Jobs were the pull now high cost of living is the push.

One of the reasons I left is that it’s far cheaper for me to not work in Colombia than it would be for me to work a 65 hour work week in DC.

All the traditional black areas in LA are like 60-70% Mexican now :francis:
This is definitely false!

•Leimert Park is still 66.3% black;

•Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw is still 52.8% black;

•View Park/Windsor Hills is still 79.2% black;

•Hyde Park is still 53.9% black;

•Manchester Square is still 68.3% black;

•West Athens is still 53.3% black;

•Gramercy Park is still 72.8% black;

•the Inglewood Bottoms is still 60.7% black;

•Morningside is still 79.6% black;

•North Ingles is still 52.2% black

•Ladera Heights is still 58% black

There's plenty of black areas still in Los Angeles. Not as many as 30+ years ago, that's a fact. But there are still plenty of black areas...
Where is Wilmington, Delaware? More than 50% black.
I only did cities that anchor large metro areas...

But yes, Wilmington is 51.6% black, with a population of 36,709 non-hispanic black people...

Thats that original east side low bottom shyt
I still dont think nikkas are moving outta state like that
It seems like mfkas are moving around
I think more people stay local than people think, they just leave the city. But they still floating around LA County or SoCal...

That said, there are plenty of negroes who have left LA and California altogether. A good chunk of em move to other parts of California. Or Nevada or Arizona. It's honestly the same dynamic in NorCal, too. Reno is to us, what Vegas is for yall. Right across the border, half the black people in Reno are from The Bay or Sacramento...

Californians in general love staying close to California. Mf's who need a real life reset, or are following family, may go further out, Texas and beyond...

But the increased black populations in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, are coming/came from transplanted Californians...

I love LA but black culture is waning out there

We need a reset and focus on more grassroots efforts

Even the king parade this year was looking dry
Has there been a noticeable move to Bakersfield, or would you say that's generally a rarity?

Sacramento has always had some back and forth interchange with LA. My family is just one of many examples, you always been able to find LA cats around Sacramento!
