Working 60-80 hours a week while dealing with abusive management and entitled customers
Is not a great job
The only way to crack 100k is to work 6 damn days a week on top of the 80 hours
There are two tables of pay for each craft
Table 1 tops out at 15 steps and is gucci for right now
It would take Table 2 craft employees YEARS to even get half of that salary to achieve that
Between the ever present packages from Amazon to Dejoy purposely running the post office into the ground
Attrition from overworking
Old buildings but now putting everybody in SD&C buildings that look like prisons
And those people having to drive sometimes 50-100 miles out to get to work
Benefits prices being increased
Rarely getting colas and contracts that are pure garbage
Kindly stfu :childplease:
I have to remember where I am posting and temper my expectations.

I still end up disappointed.

A kid I grew up withs Mom was a mailman and after years on the beat moved to the post office. They owned a house, never moved, lived great. My boy works for the main city post office and lives in an apartment.

Pops did 35 years at the USPS.
We had a nice home in a middle class neighborhood and rental property.
Moms had a new whip every few years and he just took her old car when they upgraded.
We all went to private school and college and got cars in 11th grade.
Got braces when the teeth got fukked up.
2 or 3 family vacations every year.
Great union, great benefits, great retirement.

Firmly middle class.
We could do what we wanted to do for the most part.

I have many friends with similar experiences.
Post office was a great way for black families to build back in the day.

There is a real effort to fukk up the post office on purpose so they can justify privatizing it.
Don't get it twisted.

Things are not the same anymore.

My grandfather and my uncle worked for the Post Office for 35-40 years.

Everything you said was true for them too.

My dad followed in my grandfather's footsteps another way by going Air Force but, instead of getting out after his first stint, he stayed in for his whole career.

It's a tough job, but I know several people who deliver mail and are making 6 figures. They work a good amount of hours/OT though.
