I always wondered how his rebounding got so bad... :dahell:

Was Magic statpadding triple doubles, stealing boards on some :youngsabo:?

:mjpls:

Or was he severely limited jumping and in terms of mobility? :flabbynsick:
Nah he was damn near 40.

michael cooper was a good 3pt shooter for his era, byron scott. the lakers had shooters (not to the extent of GS) plus buck had a nice set 3pt shot later in his career.

let me ask you. Who's keeping kareem off the boards, who's guarding kareem. Zeke noted they still had to double kareem at 40 years old in the finals. His shot is unstoppable and unguardable and he never had issues going up and down the court.

Kareem wasn't the monster on the boards in the 80's that he was in the 70's as crazy as it sounds mcgee would be able to put rebound the showtime version of cap at 40 years old cap was barely pulling down 5 boards a night and yes cooper and Scott were good 3point shooters for their era but that doesn't even compare for today kd and steph can literally make more threes and at a higher rate in one quarter then any 80's laker team could in a 7 game series the lakers wouldn't be able to hold this team period

All these debates are pointless.
They really are

Especially when people want to force the old era into the new era playing style. If the 3 ball was more prevalent in the 80s, I'm sure the Lakers and others would have been taking & making many more 3s. If your argument is based solely on 3 > 2, then you're just being obtuse about the situation while rendering the whole discussion useless

The problem with this is, the discussion isn't built on if the '87 Lakers played in an era which valued the 3ball more or any other parallel standing (access to the same training/development, nutrition, talent pool and advanced schemes of today), the discussion is based on the '87 Lakers exactly as they were vs the '17 Warriors exactly as they are in a series.

The 3 > 2 argument is grounded in logic, whereas the 'Showtime Lakers would sweep the Warriors' argument is grounded in folklore.

I forgot how old this roster was when Magic stepped into the scene. I thot Kareem was a bit younger. Its really just him being old as shyt that severely throws this off for me. You gotta have a 5 that can defend theirs and I dont even know if prime Kareem is running with KD, much less this iteration.

Absolutely. nikkas talking all this 'my facts and stats are concrete' in a scenario that can never happen. How many times have teams or individuals in sports matched up, and all those prior statistics and supposed advantages went out the window and things went as no one expected?
