That’s a fraudulent stat. the 9ers gave up the 3rd fewest rushing yards lol
It's not a fraudulent stat. Total rushing yards given up is a fraudulent stat because we had the 3rd highest scoring offense in the league, so teams had to abandon the run to catch up. We had the lowest rushing attempts against our defense in the league, yet our defense's rushing YPC was 10th in the league and EPA was 21st. Not an efficient run defense performance this year at all, and Niners fans will tell you that. Perfect example is the Lions run the ball on a 3rd and 12 in the NFC Championship Game and converting it. We have the most talented front 7 on paper in the NFL. No way the run defense should be this mid. That's on Wilks.

You keep harping on the rushing yards. That's not the only thing that goes with a defense.

Niners were FOURTH in points allowed. 8th overall defense. Had almost 2 turnovers per game.

The games lost the offense put up 17 points every time:dead:

Was Wilks perfect? No. But you don't fire someone mainly because your shyt play calling doesn't produce points.

49ers..Braves..Celtics
the defense in the first half was great though :childplease: might as well fire the offensive coordinator too then :childplease:

The offense gave the defense a lead three times late in the game and the defense gave up points every time. Also, it was more than just this game. Wilks had problems in several games, at least seven games by my count where they looked completely lost.

I watched nearly every snap of the season.

49ners were neck and neck with the ravens for most talented defense in the league. Stars at all 3 levels.

Players had issues with Wilks the whole season. In the Super Bowl, Kyle was visibly upset with some of Wilks’ playcalling. Even wasted a timeout to get out of a poor blitz package at the end of the game.

Making it a race thing is low hanging fruit. His last 2 DCs were men of color and they both got HC gigs

But it was his first year.

I would think a superbowl caliber defense gets you a second year to make adjustments. As well as get rid of guys who dont buy into the system.

Defensive coordinators make bad decisions in games. Kyle shouldve been worried about scoring a touchdown, instead of being in Wilks business:mjlol:

If your d coorinator does something stupid, its your job to have his back. Same way when the offense wasnt scoring shyt, Wilks called a game that held the Chiefs to 3 points in the first half. This mentality trickles down and shows why they continue to lose. Regretfully i now renounce my decision to join the 9ers bandwagon after this debacle.

The problem started in the beginning where Kyle forced Wilks to call a defense that wasn't his. That's the core issue of it all. I don't think any of white counterparts would be forced to do that. They wouldn't ask Vic Fangio to do that. They wouldn't ask Dan Quinn to do that. They wouldn't ask Mike Zimmer or Gus Bradley.

Any other sane coach would've allowed him to make some adjustments in the offseason to something he'd be more comfortable with considering he had a lifetime of concepts he'd be more familiar with calling and using in crunch time, but Kyle let the defensive players throw shots at him and fired him.

The two times he was put in HORRIBLE positions this Super Bowl were the two times they allowed a touchdown which was badluck (the muff) and Kyle's OT call where Pat and Andy were going to be in automatic 4th down offense.......and that's with Greenlaw aka arguably the best defensive player this playoffs was hurt.

This specific firing isn't about race, but he definitely took this job in the same way Bienemy took the Washington OC job as a profile lifter and left damaged meanwhile Dave Canales got the job at Carolina AFTER they fired Reich AFTER he damn near got them to the playoffs last year with Sam Darnold and PJ Walker.

Bosa should shut the fukk up considering his lack of performance this year and Kyle only made this position more toxic for whomever takes it over next year.

Wilks made some very baffling decisions throughout the season but let’s be fair the Run Defense declined yes but it wasn’t just because of coaching. Armstead was playing injured, Hargrave is not an elite run stuffer, Young is a terrible run defender. Considering all that it’s not hard to figure why the run defense wasn’t as stout. Truthfully they badly missed Omenihu

Then in the secondary your having to play guys like 100 yr old Gipson and Logan F’n Ryan.

Wilks was just a bad fit the hire never made sense to me. Again there were times when Wilks had me scratching my head. …. But the defense was still pretty good. Even though the stats may be better Hard to compare to Demeco. Demeco is an elite defensive mind. I’d say Wilks was probably on the same level as the defenses Saleh had his last two years. Saleh had some bad defensive games too let’s not forget.

But at the end of the day when you hold Mahomes and Reid to 19 pts(the KC offense wasn’t what it was in the past but limiting them was still impressive) in REGULATION you have to WIN. The offense needed to put more points PERIOD.

And when is special teams coach going to be fired?????

Shady and James Jones ain't watching ball they just reading lazy ass, basic, season-ending stats

They saying the 49ers defense was elite all year and Wilks coached his tail off :mjlol: go ask ANY Niners fan if the defense was playing elite all year

Joy Taylor saying "who is doing a better job than Steve Wilks" :russ: I would have taken a ham sandwich in the booth over this guy for most of the season, they treating blood like he Beli or something:camby:
