The only person satisfied with their life is dead :wow:

yo....Joan's t*ts are so massive you can't help but look anywhere else but at them....she should understand and respect that at this point in her life!

that being said.....good ep....ken gettin revenge on roger...:smugdraper:
AVClub talked about the paralells between this and Vietnam, which was alluded to in Nixon's speech.

Ken should've just walked away. Instead of seeing the writing on the wall he's gonna keep up a losing battle just to try to get some type of win.

I peeped the John Dos Passos' book the waitress was reading. The 42nd Parallel is the 1st part of the USA trilogy. What I'm reading from the wikipedia page kinda makes that trilogy seem a lot like the show as if Mad Men was a continuation of that trilogy. A lot of 3's in this episode as well (don't know if I'm reaching). The three dudes talking to Peggy and Joan, the book is part of a trilogy, Ted's 3 women line, Don meeting up with the waitress 3 times in the episode. There's probably more.

In the context of the episode (as well as the show in general), this on the wikipedia page stood out.

Dos Passos portrays the everyday situations of the characters before, during, and after WWI, with special attention to the social and economic forces that drive them. Those characters who pursue "the big money" without scruple succeed, but are dehumanized by success. Others are destroyed, crushed by capitalism, and ground underfoot. Dos Passos does not show much sympathy for upwardly mobile characters who succeed, but is always sympathetic to the down and out victims of capitalist society. He explores the difficulty faced by winners and losers alike when trying to make a stable living for themselves as well as wanting to settle down in some means.

Makes me want to peep the books.

Don is in yet another hedonistic spiral, very reminiscent of Tony Soprano….

Rogers mustache may have stolen the show, dude was just ruthless, out the gate with the remarks and one liners….looking like a Confederate general, paying homage to his mentor, Bertram Cooper.

'Loves to tell stories about how poor he was…..trust me he's not anymore'

'I suppose I am going to have to drop one of you off'

Ken has always been the least dysfunctional, kindest and well intentioned out of all of them, he deserves anything good he gets….

I can barely get past Roger and that mustache dude has gone off the deep end of facial error and comedic expression….

edit: the Peggy and Joan elevator scene was dope, and the meeting with the creeps from Mccann(?) was cringeworthy and a great little example of sexism in the country, and workplace, how it's changed and how it hasn't changed.

I'm watching the repeat now, I was distracted on phone through premiere….I just saw Ted Chuagh :dead:

I didn't see the development of Kenny motivated by revenge, but I guess it's fitting with the theme, that all seem to lacking a certain peace or contentment in their world….

Also, I want to add that bra size regardless, Joan is not attractive to me AT ALL, obviously she is not an 'ugly' women, but far from my type, and her character is just about as repugnant as any on the show….I have felt sympathy for her, and certainly understand her motivations and ideologies based on her character and what she experience as a women, but she is just despicable. Her interaction with that saleswomen just reminded me why I dislike her, if you could put ALL the qualities I dislike about women, and people in general in ONE, and none of the ones I like, it would be Joan.
