I love when cats say "hip hop was birthed out of the civil rights movement"

when it clearly wasn't. Hip Hop (actually rapping) was birthed out of the Jamaican party scene and brought over and utilized in the NY party scene. "THe message" was probably the first political/social/fight against the powers that be hiphop record in America and that was at least 4 years after rappers delight and almost 10 years after Herc came up with the 2 turntables and mixer setup at house parties. Just because the innovations in music -hiphop - happened at the tail end of the civil rights movements doesn't mean it was birthed from it - it almost makes it seem like the civil rights movement caused hiphop or helped create it, when the music had nothing to do with it.

People like rewriting hiphops history to fit into what we want it to be - almost in a way to ostracize others from the art.

Think we can safely hand the interview belt to the boys over at Hot97 now, they been putting in significant work these past six months. Fantastic dialogue.

I didn't take much from this interview in particular in the first half, but the second half talking about the music was pretty good. His sentiments on the Kendrick text was interesting. Worth an hour of my life for sure.

I see they choppped a little bit at the end when they started speaking about Cole though :patrice: I wonder what he said.

Not Technically a "Doctor"
For decades, we told white people that it is wrong to tell a man to "know his place" in a culture. But the definition of hypocrisy is being hypocritical plus power, so it's not wrong for us to tell these devils to know their place in this culture.

I mean I was feelin half the shyt he says but fukk him for not standing up for himself and his music."Yes yes you are right and Azealia Banks is right I'm white I should just bow down" like wtf :scust:

like wise..

this is like the yelawolf situation..with lord jamar..except...jamar didnt hear shyt wolf was sayin...like the red nikka he is..all he was focused on was wolf tellin him to suck his balls..

funny he did his research on mack..

but wasnt on his shyt with riff raff..n tried to attack em on some no substance culture vulture shyt..

when in reality...riff raff..comes from the class of chamillionaire, lil flip, paul wall..big pokey n the og swishahouse

all nikkas who didnt have any substance on none of the mixtapes...all who went for the man hol up factor because the off the wall shyt they said....yet ebro was to caught up with the cover..he never looked at the origins of it

In reality Macklemore is better than a lot of overhyped trash people out right now like Young Thug, Drake etc...

He is right about double standards, these do apply, 1 part that resonated was the parents saying "you're the only rapper I let my kids listen too" , I've heard similar things about Eminem "you're the only rapper I understand what they are saying" or "you're much better than every rapper by far, shyt on every other rapper" etc. Also what he said about equality, when plenty of black artists have done that. Black artists have even spoke on the gay topic before, but I do credit Macklemore for that because he did it in a whole song kind of way, which I don't think many have done and gone that far with it. That is a good song and a positive message and it is actually breaking some new ground and advancing things so I can respect him for that. And also the fact he can actually rap, I like him better than a lot of the overhyped "new generation". I'm not a fan yet I wouldn't say but I'm willing to follow his albums and maybe 1 day become 1. I've never had any beef with Macklemore or dissed him, he's pretty good. Has some good work.

What? They spoke exactly in this interview on people like you who would say this shyt. He said he made a great album and he wanted to win all of those Grammys, but he knew the process was flawed. He did defend his music and so did the interviewers. You guys are weirdos
