So Mase left fame and success JUST because some Harlem goon was trying to touch him ? Really ?

He should've just moved to another town. That story is either false or Mase is really dumb.

However, he definitely had that pretty boy/soft aura.
he wasn't just trying to touch him, people got killed and mase couldn't handle the pressure so he fled to atl, retired from music and became a pastor.

that's NOT the full extent of the story....

i've actually interviewed someone who was a well known industry stylist in the Atlanta area and member of S.A.N.E ministries which is the church organization that Mase headed along with his wife.....

we had a off the record conversation about Mase...and she was only willing to share this because me and her (the stylist) had mutual friends in the industry and were once neighbors on Old National highway down in Atlanta

anyway she stated that the pressure from the Baby Lane issue was a small factor but not as a significant factor as Mase being Mase....a swindling unloyal type of guy.....

plus MASE always loved the south ..he use to stay in jacksonville and was a frequent patron of JUSTINS and was in the company of WOLF and the BMF clique in atl ..he was good there...had girls in atl and loved the scene and the ability to make $$$ without all the complexities that come with being in NYC

anyway

she said Mase really wanted to get into the "megachurch game" as a source of revenue and exit plan from the draconian BAD BOY deal he had signed with Puff.....

to Puff's credit....and i quote her..."he didn't wanna fulfill the obligations of the contract....inspite of the fact that he was locked in for more album options owed to puff"....she also said...Mase knew Puff has a soft spot when it comes to spiritual manners...similiar to him signing Hezikiah Walker the gospel singer to a sweet deal....Mase was able to convince Puff to release him from the deal inspite of the fact Mase breached the contract...

Mase had a plan he had Creflo Dollar as his "mentor/OG" and was trying to be in that "lane" ($$$) but found out just like the rap game it takes MONEY to make MONEY.....

so according to her MASE conjurs up this plan to approach NELLY whom had a mutual relationship with Mase former manager CUDDA LOVE ....Cudda and NELLY both ran FO REEL ENTERTAINMENT and got coerced into sponsering a set of luxury church vans for MASEs church and forking over some $$$

MASE ran that game on them...like he did Puff.....in exchange for the cash and transportation...he gave them the option of resigining him to bring forth a "clean pop styled" rap album with spiritual themes sprinkled in if he ever decide to excersise his option to go back in the rap game....

that never happened with Nelly and Cudda......he decided to return with a "bad boy gone clean" image with another mogul

...hence "WELCOME BACK" video via PUFFY.....in 2004

big fat advance...huge budget ...big rollout..then less like a year later walaaah he LEAVES again.....

puff is pissed he even stated in a radio interview how he lost millions of dollars investing in Mase's return....

which resulted in Puff and 50 having issues when it came to negotiating for MASE to come to GUNIT

so you can't hate on PUFF for wanting a 2 mill pricetag on that azz.... :manny:

PUFF, CUDDA LOVE, NELLY and 50 to extent all got swindled......along with the church congregation and the fans

MASE is the "LEON" of the rap game

Mase had more natural charisma than Drake. Drake has more cross over appeal.

Ma$e could NEVER obtain the fanbase nor achieve the status that DRAKE has maintained so consistently over the past 5 years

Mase NEVER was acknowledged by the POP WORLD he wasnt n thier radar

White Folks didnt even know his name..he was Puffs sidekick to them

His HOOK game doesnt even come close to DRAKE

His subject matter revolved mostly around being a fly guy crack dealer

Hell even when he was in a collective "CHILDREN OF THE CORN" he was probally the weakest link next to Camron

The boy made hot club hits but chart wise he aint fukking wit Drake

His flow was teased as being borderline retard very slow rather basic

and for the record...MASE had ghostwriters too...they just ain't as dope as DRAKE's
:lolbron:

You guys are so passionate with your hate for Drake that u say some outlandish things

mase was a writer unlike drake, lol
not to say he never didn't get help from cam'ron or any of his nikkas for a line or 2 but the majoirty of his rhymes he wrote. shyt, he was a ghostwriter for puffy
but what i meant by the thread title was that he should've had the success that drake has had because mase had the crossover appeal and success to an extent but we didn't get to see it blossom all the way because he left the game

true MASE was a writer ...a damn good one at that :whew:

his bars on "niccaz don't started something" and his early children of the corn work are a testament to that

......everybody respected his penship game....from jada to nas

but it's no SECRET that towards the end of the final promotional run of his debut album and he was just doing features...

it was SKILLZ from VA and another N.Y "mixtape" cat whom made significant contributions to Mase craft

cause MASE was just "out there" i.e (partying...getting drunk ..high..running the streets as opposed to the studio)

not really....mases' era was better if not the best then one of the best in hip hop period. Drake wouldn't have survived, at all. He's nice in the era of downloading music on phones and watching youtube and buying songs singally. But in the era where you had to go the store to get the record, or cop the bootleg from the dude on the corner, and you had to wait for the radio to play the new drops.....drake wouldn't have made it. he couldve/wouldve made songs, hell everybody did. but the reality is he just woulda been another teenaged tv star rapper the likes of bow wow, nick cannon, kel mitchell, pretty much any black teenaged actor that was on tv in the 90's. Nobody would have taken him seriously then, and Ive never met anyone that takes him seriously now. He talks softly and tells women what they like to hear, but he doesn't have that edge, he's not a "bad boy" like mase and aint from a cool city like NY. Plus he's lightskinned, he would have had a slightly better run than B2k\imx\immature.

:whoa: yo im not hear to expose or slander Mase

for the record i am a BIG FAN of mase...when i went to clubs in the 90s whether it was the TUNNEL in NYC or 112 in ATL all i wanted to hear was MASE in the clubs...cause he made some damn good bangers :obama:

now when SKILLZ leaked the story that he wrote for MASE he never i recall revealed what songs or how many songs he did for ole boy
:manny:
that's neither here nor thier with me

like i said I PERSONALLY HAVE NO PROBLEMO WITH GHOSTWRITING

cause the industry is one big dog and pony show....and once i got to actually sit in the studio with artists and realize that hey it's all ONE BIG MACHINE that pushes them.....i wasn't even mad ......

at either MASE nor DRAKE.....cause at the end of the day IT'S SHOW BUSINESS

oh i agree, 100%
i'm a big fan of ma$e's as well and honestly, even though he ain't got the catalog bruh is still in my top 10
but yeah, it's all 1 big machine when it comes to show business and the help with writin' and producin' that goes on behind the scenes
every nikka gets some type of help along the way, that's just the way it is to keep the hits comin' and the ball rollin'
i use to hate on drake but i don't anymore. i've got a new perspective on him and i accept him for the artist he is
i don't have a problem with ghostwritin' anymore either because as you said, it's always one big machine that pushes them, it is what it is. who cares? we or i guess i should say i, i just want to hear good music at the end of the day

only reason i asked bout skillz ghostwritin' for ma$e was because i never had heard that so it was interestin' to me
but yeah, i agree with everythin' you said, great post @The HONORABLE SKJ :salute:

true and i agree. when i made the statement i made for the thread title, i just meant in ma$e's era, he should been able to flourish like drake has today if ma$e would've stuck around long enough too. that's all
but i agree with you though

Mase did great in that era. Could he have had a longer career..yeah. but some people have short careers that are great like Barry Sanders/mase others have long careers Like Kobe/jay-z (20 years). hell id like to hear mase keep rappin and putting out albums just like id love to see megatron, lynch and barry sanders have longer careers but it is what it is, they did what they did and now they're done.
