The 2000s was a weird time in the music industry tho.

Internet was becoming a thing, but this was slightly before Blog Era days.

Internet killed off most artist budgets, which effectively jumpstarted the 360 deals, but also made many of those infamous joint ventures (Roc, DTP, Murder Inc, etc.) bleed money.

However, the independent route wasn't fully established yet. It was still fairly young. Koch was around, but that was almost a graveyard for most artists.

Dude is straight capping, been defrauding his stans for decades now with his capping.

His fourth album F&L2 half-flopped cause his third album was trash and had more promotion than any other album and it was mediocre. The 5th T&Y was solid but flopped cause the 3rd and 4th were ass and cause he didn’t have any popular singles (those singles Atlantic forced and still perform cause they were successful). Like how can he wonder why Atlantic didn’t push Mural like they pushed Superstar :mjlol:

People always believe all of these capping and crying as rappers. Has anyone ever heard a rapper say “I take responsibility, it was us, it was me” it’s always “them, them and them”.

Like why the fukk would a business stop promoting its current artists under their current deal that they have them? They will always invest in your as long as they can make a reasonable return. Dude wanna act like Lasers wasn’t his biggest album and that people strictly bought his shyt dude to his lyrical prowess.

Man made pop music, sold well, saw the reviews and criticism. Said he recorded music with a gun to his head :mjlol:

Man made shyt nobody bought, saw good reviews, said nobody promoted him.

It’s almost like a QB who after every win says I wanna thank me. When he loses he blames the OC and receivers.

Thought everyone knew Atlantic fukked him over. He done well to keep himself here after all those years

There are a lot of people who don't realize/care that Atlantic had a whole collection of pre packaged songs for rappers.... guaranteed hits, but they had to get down or lay down.

The fact that Lupe passed on a single is why B.O.B. was able to get 2 huge singles.

Him having an abrasive personality and his twitter posts are somewhat why people don't want to hear about how Atlantic did business during the blog era....despite it all being factual and there being multiple rappers who either benefited from it/career ended cause of it.

I love Lupe but that’s his side of the story. Listen to him, he’s willing to do a 360, but he know some people who know some people? He got the shirt hook up, distribution, designer , and everything else.

Why the hell would he be interested in a 360 deal then?

Go do it on your own.

This has been an online talking point for the better part of 20 years....and it's one of the most delusional takes ever.

Just because you're good at rapping doesn't mean you're even competent at anything else in the rest of the universe of the music industry.

:dahell:When was his music trash? His first 2 albums are classics. Are you saying the music on Lasers specifically was trash? Cause he’s always blamed the label for that
No they not.

His music was always mid. Cheap beats, imitation whisper Jay Z flows and ad libs, cheesy hooks.

Those first two albums are glorified 3.5 mic albums the rest is pop shyt or experimental chore. Hell of a conceptual writer and he can rap but his voice has always been lackluster.

It’s not an online talking point. Lupe said it. He said when they were discussing the deal, he told them how he knows a designer, t shirt person, and distributor.

Why is anyone with any semblance of a name even considering signing with a major label? If you got fans, quality content, and a strong team you can eat independently. Moreso than most artists that are signed because that money is all coming to you.

That said, this aint news. Artists been getting robbed since the beginning. You watch Behind the Music or Unsung or anything about any artists and getting jerked is gonna be in there 80% of the time.

That said, what she said actually makes sense. Why would I devote money and time to you when I stand to profit less? Labels aint here to make rich at their expense.

I agree, but if an artist wants to be independent, they need to do everything themselves or hire people to do it for them. That’s hard, when you don’t have a lot of money to invest and you don’t have a great deal of knowledge of the music business.
