"That means I'ma pimp on par
Til I'm six feet under, like it's three nikkaz in a Flinstone car"

The best rapper ever. It's so funny to me when they try and pigeonhole him into "just being a great lyricist". Like he hasn't perfected every style under the sun from swag raps, gangster raps, conscious raps and mainstream hit making ability. Like his flows, diversity, rhyme schemes, concepts and subject material aren't every bit as impressive as his lyrical talents.

The only flaws in his skill set is whether or not you like his music. That's about it, and that's entirely up to your ears and subjective but the prodigious talent and his body of work (:troll:) is undeniable.

nikkas be tying to add all these goofy superlatives and extra attachments to his name like "Lupe Fiasco is one of the best conscious rappers from Chicago of the last few years" and all this other silliness when the reality is he's simply one of the best rappers of all time PERIOD. But that doesn't go into the phony narratives where you got radio personalities with influence like Charlemagne saying the top tier is Drake, Kendrick, and J.Cole so they gotta dumb down Lu's greatness and make it seem niche. It's transparent and ridiculous. Like any of those guys can hold a candle to him on the microphone.

It makes dudes feel uncomfortable when you say he's the best because that doesn't fit the script of how things are "supposed" to be. A moody, contrarian, rebellious oddball nerdy former thug in glasses who is just as quick to rhyme about robots and animal cruelty as he is about the streets and women does not fit the mold of what the greatest is supposed to look like. People will say "Lupe is too weird and different to be the best" rather than "Lupe is weird and different, but he's the best."

Another thing that I've observed over the years is how the guys in that age group don't really acknowledge anybody besides Jay-Z, Pac, Big, Nas, 3Stacks etc as having an influence on their music.

It's like we skipped an entire generation of artists. Goes from Jay-Z to Kendrick... Cole... Drake... as if there wasn't great music between that time period.

Lupe being caught in label purgatory from 2007 to 2014 is the best thing that could have happened to those up and comers. Stifled the quality and quantity of Lupe's work and gave them a lane. I became a fan of many of those dudes while Lupe was going through that.

Also could be the best thing for us fans because I doubt we'd have ever gotten T&Y had he not gone through that.

Now that he's free though I expect him to put out nothing but top notch music with a supreme level of skill and detail that separates him from the rest just like he did with the first two and most recent.

Tossing off fans with the Eurodance, EDM, and the unexplainable album Lasers, and then returning to form with Food & Liquor II, Lupe Fiasco finds himself free to soar and aspire on his 2015 effort Tetsuo & Youth, an album inspired by the rapper's upbringing in Chicago. It's also an LP that's conceptually structured, with "Summer," "Fall," "Winter," and "Spring" interludes dotting the track list, but any reservations that the sometimes "preachy" rapper has gone full sanctimonious are wiped away by the easy-rolling opener "Mural" and its elevated series of "LOL" punch lines ("Unless you Virgin Mary, nothin' do it but the truest/Believe all that unless you Jewish" or "And I feel like a missionary to a clitoris"). Guy Sebastian joins for the more poptacular "Blur My Hands," which seems a play for radio at only five-and-a-half minutes, as many numbers stretch longer, sometimes because of musical noodling (a banjo kicks off the great "Dots & Lines") and sometimes because it's a huge posse cut recalling the old days ("Chopper," the album's longest cut at 9:32). These flights of fancy are interesting, intoxicating, or both to varying degrees, but when "Madonna (And Other Mothers in the Hood)" hits the speakers as a poetic and majestic ode to those raising kids in the land of poverty and crime, Lupe offers a purposeful, and arguably perfect, song to anchor it all. His 2006 debut may still be the one to pick, since it's leaner and more instant, but Tetsuo & Youth strolls its way into greatness after a couple listens and wipes out all the bitter aftertaste of Lasers as if that misstep never happened.
