So what is your point? You think it's a "filler" line? Right. It's meaningless and unnecessary? Or is it that you didn't get the line? Which is it?

You initially came in here asking what does the line mean. I explained what it meant. You then bring up Rap Genius Annotations for what is a straight forward simile. So yes, you can say it's a filler line to close out the bars he just dropped prior about Tony Montana and the Scarface metaphor, but all rappers do this. You're acting like that example is enough to validate your feeling that Lupe is a shytty writer which is ridiculous.

I'm not reaching at all, I answered your question, and then you went on and on how Lupe is a horrible writer. Which to a lot of people is simply not true.

Yes. I think it's complete filler. And it's a simile that goes nowhere.

It's like saying:
"A dog smiles at ants like lambo doors creaking at a car show,
to *open up* the soul with dis-effect..."

You don't think I've just said a BULLshyt line?

And I'm saying that Lupe has a TON of filler lines. In fact, the way he writes makes it hard to distinguish the punch from the filler.

Pick any great rapper.... every single bar could stand on its own.

TRON has to be one of the worst songs I've heard in a while. and Lupe stans were bigging it up. No one has answered the question I posed a few pages ago:

What the fukk does that moon chowder line mean?!
Chowder is slang for cocaine

You can be this petty with every single rapper that ever graced the mic. All greats have some filler lines within their discography

I'm not gonna have this back and forth where you, the defensive Lupe fan, calls me emotional and then I call you emotional back.... lol. It's so unnecessary.

I think I've provided more than enough analysis to show you that I'm looking at this stuff as objectively as possible. You guys are the ones with these short, deflecting responses.

All I'm saying is: stick to one question so we can stay on topic.

You're asking me why I don't fukk with Lupe. And I'm giving you clear nuggets of why I (and possibly others) don't fukk with Lupe. Do you have any responses to my critique of his writing style? The annoyance at how vague and non-vivid his lines are on their own?

let's talk about that.
That's what I wanna hear. I just didn't think u gave me enough reasons why u don't like it. And yes Ima defend a album that I like. I'm not being emotional at all. Lol means something on here lol see. I admit he got 3 songs that go over my head. But that doesn't make me write off the album. Shyt I listen to boom clap bachelors they speak another language. But the production and hooks are crazy. So I check for them. That's the point I'm making with this album.

Production
Hooks
Features
Delivery
Charisma

Alone will keep me tuned in. If that's not ur thing cool. It's obvious this album is the type of album your not gonna digest in one sitting. Just like Black Thought. Thought would speak to these same issues directly and to the point right?

So I can see why people wouldn't like the way Lupe did it. U might think he's being arrogant by purposely going over ur head (not saying anybody is dumb) just for the hell of it. But I think he's doing this because for him being direct makes him controversial. People will nit pick everything he's saying without checking the message or getting the full story. Or they'll just call him a smart dumb n1gga and disagree with him. So he puts it in code for u to interpret it yourself. I personally think it's cool and creative. Shyt I don't get all of it. But I respect it.

Even if that were true....so what? What does it have to do with anything? LOL. Oh because mentioned Tony Montana earlier? So what.... what's his overall point?

This is exactly what I'm talking about. nikkas just throw shyt out there.

I'm not into that 'throw out random references' shyt. it has to stand on its own and have some meaning to it. And that meaning can't be on some 'write your own fanfic and see whatever you want to see' shyt. It has to be clear what you're talking about.

The song is about reincarnation... sort of like coming back into the "Game" of life. That entire verse references cycles, so to pull out 1 particular line out of the context of what the song and album's theme is is lazy as fukk. But I'm a let you cook breh.

see? and this is what you come back with.

I've spent 2 pages trying to tell you that Lupe's lines don't stand out on their own. And that is an issue to anyone who is NOT a Lupe fan. His lines, when read individually, are too vague, uninteresting and wack.

and then you come back with this "we lazy for not seeing the whole picture" LOL.

shyt individual lines are NOT gonna build into a Picasso painting. Don't kid yourself.

Man, I've entertained your point. You have your mind made up. There's really nothing I can say at this point. You think Lupe Fiasco is a shytty writer. Nothing else needs to be said fam.

And it's extremely lazy to pick a part a line and dismiss the context that it was used in pertaining to a song. What else do you want from me?

No actually. You're the one that thinks Lupe is fantastic and beyond critique.

I always say this, but the best shyt I've ever heard from Lupe is his verse on Superstar Remix. Look at the way he flowed that and the way it's written compared to this TRON bullshyt. Every line in that shyt makes sense. It stands on its own. and most importantly, it sounds great.

And all those good lines come together to build into one cohesive point: He's still a superstar regardless of what you think about him.

Bruh... I always give artist the benefit of the doubt. I just don't like when people coddle weak shyt. Whether it be Nas or Lupe.

You can still disagree with me. We all have our opinions. But best believe we're not "hating" Lupe or "too dumb to get it". We just don't think he's as dope as you say he is, for very legitimate reasons.

Thing is... I don't even like Tron that much. If you pull up my posts in this thread with my favorite songs, you'll never see TRON listed. I'm just replying to you because you felt the need to go on and on about a simile and asked an open question about what 1 particular line meant. I responded to that.

And I'm fully away of his critiques and I don't think he's perfect or beyond critique. I do however feel like he's a great lyricist and an amazing writer. So yeah, we'll never agree on that note.

Are you sure? Because you just added info that wasn't there. "the rotation"

The line is literally: "The moon surrounds us like spoons moving chowder"

I understand the connection the dude is trying to make, and if you follow the next line in context, you know he's talking about stirring because he actually says 'stir'. [in case you didn't get it, lmao]

But the problem is that Lupe's writing is weak. The lines individually don't stand out on their own and make sense on their own.

This issue somehow flies over the head of your average Lupe fan and they think that people are too dumb to appreciate Lupe. When in fact, it's Lupe's weak writing that prevents people from fukking with him.

Add that to the fact that the Rap Genius explanation from a Lupe fan about homeless shelters serving chowder to explain that line just has me on the floor dying of laughter.

Y'all have no idea what he's even talking about. It's a "throw shyt at the wall and see what sticks" approach. You take whatever-you-want outta that verse type of approach.

And after all that 'moon chowder' vague shyt, Lupe's point is that the soul is stirred like soup? Is that it? I don't even know what he's talking about. And if that's the point, then why even mention the moon rotating? Isn't that an extra, unneeded simile? The soup stirring already makes the same connection. It's cluttered and verbose bullshyt.

I grew up in a different era with far stronger writing. I can't get into Lupe. Just like most nikkas in my era and before can't. It's too damn weak.

While those types of Lupe fans are out there I dont think thats what people in this thread are trying to say.

Rap Genius is usually only right about the actual lyrics themselves, and are way off on the connotations and the double-meanings behind those lyrics. If you read rap genius you'd just think the first verse of Adoration of the Magi is only about Double Dragon, and not realize that he's speaking on something else using scenarios from that game. We're not saying "ah ha nikka this shyt too next level for you :russ:"...we're just saying that writing this album off as smart dumb nikka rap is a mistake.

With the moon chowder line...sometimes rappers need to use certain words to get em to rhyme and its as simple as that. The rest of TRON is technically sound as fukk.

Chill, this is his most abstract album. His other albums are straight forward.
