I to this day think that Lasers got unfairly shytted on. It's a 3/5 album from a 5/5 MC and had the misfortune of coming directly after The Cool. It's his Nastradamus....
F&L2 being called "trash" is another example of this. That album was far from trash, if it weren't for the pop songs in the middle of that album it would be highly regarded as well.

The cause
The sound of a diner splice throughout the beat makes the cypher complete:ahh:

...Nikki sings La Petite Morte, which means orgasmic; how we feel eating our favorite delicacies:wow:

thought it was my mental disorder kickin in when i was hearin ice bein stirred in glasses....:whoo:

Well there's a place that has a stunning turbit (pigeon)
And more mercifully murdered Pisces (fish)
But barbaric are still the prices( shyt expensive as fukk)

I actually find Lasers to be one of his better projects from a strictly musical standpoint. That album is very listenable to me. Sometimes Lupe goes for the jugular so much it can become a chore to listen to him over those wierd meandering beats. Provides a great short term :wow: from his lyrical brilliance but over and over it becomes :aicmon: due to his production/arrangements/whining.

This is a fine example of how one man's trash will always be another man's treasure. I can't believe I'm actually even reading this as its generally accepted by most that the production on that album was awful sans 3 or 4 songs. Those eurodance type instrumentals were painful to listen to.

As far as production I think it goes T&Y > F&L > TC > F&L II > L's(short for what Lupe took when the album came out)

Agreed. You take away Heart Donor, Battle Scars, and give Unforgivable Youth and Audonball Ballroom better beats and hooks and F&L II is right there with his best. It had too many songs and the production sounded too cheap. It just had the impossible task of following up Lasers and coming out at a time where hating Lupe was the cool thing to do. It still is the cool thing to do lol.

Letting Go, All Black Everything, Till I Get There, Coming Up, Beautiful Lasers (sans bad hook) and Words I Never said are all very good to great songs. The Show Goes On is a great pop record and so is Out of my Head.

Break The Chain, I Don't Wanna Care Right Now(guilty pleasure, but terrible), State Run Radio, Never Forget You all suffer from awful hooks and awful production. And that's a shame because Lu himself was spitting on most of those.

Dots & Lines is hilarious to me :russ:

Dude absolutely shytting on the idea of signing a record deal (specifically a 360 deal) in the nicest way possible
That damn hook has been stuck in my head since I've heard it

Sacred geometry :noah:

Then a line, then a line, then a line, then a line....

Dooooooooooooooon't sign

The lyrics are so clever... I specifically think he's talking about 360 deals in this because of his history with Atlantic and because of the choice of words that he used throughout the song. The "go straight" in the hook, the whole sacred geometry theme and the second verse when he's droppin' the bars referencing degrees and circles.

It's a catchy ass song with a powerful message for a lot of up and coming artists that might go over the casual listener's head

I dont Wanna Care Right Now is one of my favorite Lu albums and i dont even think i heard Lasers all the way thru

that song is exactly how i feel sometimes..especially when listening to a heavy handed lyricist like Lupe..sometimes you dont wanna give a fukka bout whats being said and he made a dope song about it...i dont think i could bump that song out loud tho lol
