On my second listen, thoughts are pretty much the same only now that I listen to Outside again it sounds like the whole track is about Royce :mjlol:

"Post-battle love, daps and hugs, raps can plug-up
holes and less-than-holistic souls, dove off a nudge
and thowed off them shoves, having one god from above
to below, or kicking and screaming and drug to the show
Were you entertained, not?
From Robbie Nottingham plots
jauntily Hip-Hopping haunting bodyslam drops
From diction and calculation, put up your share of the Tontine
Plus a thousand allowance payments, I'll be patient
cow be tasting like yo money in my pocket, mixed with chocolate
chips and chopped-up chicken in delicious droplets
of mild sauce, that's a wild cost to risk over an opinion
I'll give you a lil' privacy to mull over your decision

Judging quality like Australian airport
Souvenir shops can be a weird op to undertake
A younger cake would avoid it altogether, like a winter home
Escaping from all the weather but balled the sweater, my business bone
is connected to my ethics,
and a series of daisy-chained preferences
that I filter things through, just like a checklist
And a much wiser bribe high with spouses on the top such as,
I now happily apply these metrics
To the setlist, on the surface, separates
but in the back of my mind they go together like a necklace
It's like the wacker the rhyme the more I'm drawn, like a, Tex Avery baby
To think maybe the genius in it is that it's not really good, maybe it could, be
Would he have only, suggested x and y or z
Or various other advice, to him from me
To animate the chains to the level, of Mister T
and I get this gangsta booed like Memphis, Tennessee

I didn't forget about you, that conversation just went longer
Than I expected,
I reckon all kinds of structures to flesh it
Sometimes we send mixed messages like, dyslexic texts-es
And get socially indebted via manners to carry on long
After what's needed got completed, we're tryna leave
gets competed, and repeated, until your point is clear
Or your point is spears
Sometimes that happens when you ramblin' about how your rappin's better than theirs"

Album sounds like Lupe rapping over Blu and Exile Below the Heavens type of beats. Its cool but its a step down from DMIZ and all that lyrical tough talk and Kendrick subliminals just sound silly now

Type of album you put on with some chamomile tea next to a rainy window pane while painting :mjlol:

No.1 headband is dope tho :ehh:

Hearing Lupe rap like this is like watching Steph Curry shoot free-throws; you marvel at the efficiency and skill and focus, but you leave it being unsurprised and ironically underwhelmed. It's like, yeah, you're great at this. Now what?

The difference between this and his other efforts over recent years is that the music itself isn't that gripping.

This album is fukking ridiculous

Gets better with every listen.

I feel it clears Drill Music in Zion. Ms. Mural is probably my favorite song of the last 5 years, but this album overall is better from start to finish.

T&Y, TC and DW are his top 3 IMO, but after those this is in competition with any other album he dropped to me.

Soundtrakk really did his thing on the production. And this might be the best he's ever rapped.

PS: I understand why someone wouldn't be into the tone and beat selection though. While I think it's CRAZY to say the beats aren't good, they are smooth and chill, and Lu himself is laid back throughout the entire album. It's like a sniper or a gun with a silencer efficiently picking targets apart with no wasted bullets. I can't faut folks for wanting Lupe more aggressive though, like a bazooka, especially when when he had this exact same approach tone/beat wise his last album.

So I definitely agree for the next one I'd like a tonal shift back to T&Y and DW sonically, but this joint is still amazing.

This explains it better than the older quotes, which made it seem like he was trying to rap from her perspective as a battle rapper (which, outside of a few lines, does not come through on the finished product at all).

I don't like it nearly as much as DMIZ, which was a top 5 album of '22 for me, but it's dope.

“From which they say he lazily blew/blue horns
Like Lapis Lazuli on a cow skull
But when things got stunning, he hit the ground running like out soles
Now how about those Outros?”

Too good at this rap shyt lol

First things that stand out are it’s completely devoid of the religious undertones of the last 3 albums and there’s no Mural-style barfest. Til Eternity is close, but not quite. There’s little in the way of high concept only Lupe could do this standalone songs, because it’s like stretching Jonylah or Alan Forever across 8 songs. The usual meditations on duality and resurrection are still there if you want to go digging, but takes a backseat to the layered production and using his voice as an instrument, probably to mimic.the feel of a jazz singer like Amy. He’s dancing on or around these beats and literally scatting at the start of No. 1 Headband. There’s several verses where he’s on the verge of falling offbeat, but he catches himself before he actually does. Then, there’s other parts where he’s so undeniably in the pocket, flipping back and forth between these two modes. With the partial exception of one duet, this is the first time he’s done all the hooks himself and I guess this album lives or dies based on how much you enjoy Lupe’s singing. Speaking of outros, both Soundtrakk albums loop beautifully back to their respective intros, especially this one.

Samurai, Mumble rap, and Outside are the 3 songs I took away from this one

Don’t really care for the rest

As a Artist/Creative, Bigfoot hit home something serious.

My favorites are that, Outside, Cake, and Palaces.

I fukk with all the tracks, but if I had to pick a least favorite it'd probably be #1 Headband, but that could change.

I can't stop spinning back Cake at the gym. That first verse is not from a human being's mind this nikka is A.I.

Edit: Verse 2 what the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

Cake is def the energy track for an otherwise low key smooth ride, like Autoboto was for DMIZ.
