The Kendrick hate on this site is weird as hell to me. Not even his biggest fan but objectively he's the only MC from the past 10 years that can comfortably fit in a Top 10 ever list, based on his consistently great Hip Hop music.

It's also weird how dudes deify this overrated, patronizing weirdo Lupe.

Just weird all around. Weirdo shyt. That's the shyt I don't like.

nikkas OVERVALUE that shyt imo. Its annoying. And im a person who really appreciates when its done right.

All that rambling shyt is for the birds...Eminem is known for it but it's one of the many reasons he's fallen off. It doesn't have to be punchlines..just something that pops off the page. He provides nothing in that regard. Don't lay it on the doorstep of punchlines when people would gladly give him a pass if he came heavy on metaphors or wit...he doesn't

Let's put it all on the table

What do you people specifically like about Kendrick Lamar other than "other people like him?"

the thing i like about the whole tde camp rap wise is the balance... perfect amounts of brag, nerdy, street, party and bullshyt, emo, conscious...and all done authentically and well over immaculate and varied production. :blessed::feedme:

Metaphorical rap is my favorite style, Ras Kass, Jay-Z, Lupe, Budden, Common, Redman rank really high as lyricist to me

But so does Nas, Pun, and G Rap they're not a metaphorical MCs. So there's multiple ways of being lyrical.

Kendrick just says a lot of things that just sound good but when you break it down doesn't really mean anything.

Here's the problem...Nas has made a career of slick lines that stand out.

"I'm not a player it's just some bytches understand my story"

"Street scriptures for lost souls in the crossroads..."

"A drug dealers dream stash cream keys on a triple beam 500 sl gleam.."

Kendrick just goes...on...and on...and on :francis:

Can't just say you king

You gotta have a fight

I told y'all Drake p*ssy he could've beaten kenny. He is a great rapper but he doesn't have the wit for war. He's a great artist but this best rapper alive shyt need to stop. Lupe is battle rapper nice wit the word play.

so it's "hate" when you don't praise someone that everyone else is? You guys need to learn what "hate" is. It's really a word today that's used when people want to escape criticism. If you say someone is "hating" it's a good way to get them to stop talking about you. I just wish that word would go away. And when his hype dies down, you guys will forget about him like you have 50 cent, Ja Rule, and Jeezy.

Californ-i-a by way of BK
Also can someone please tell me who's this Top 5 ever rapper that was/is considered a punchline rapper?
Not punchline necessarily but Jay is super metaphorical/complex wordplay and universally considered the GOAT

I get your point though. Metaphorical rappers are my favorites to listen to from a writing perspective, but it doesn't necessarily lend itself to great music unless executed properly.
