Superstar had pop leanings and was palatable to people who usually don't consume rap music. That's why it sold like it did. Not hating, I like the song.

Jay-Z and Eminem are not considered punchline rappers. Maybe some considered or still consider Em a battle rapper because of his background in battle rap but he isn't considered a punchline rapper. Big L, Fab, Banks...those dudes are considered punchline rappers.

But ask anybody what makes Em or Jay Z one of the best rappers...they are gonna include their bars...

Even the detractors of Kendrick Lamar will say he has no bars...because Kendrick doesn't utilize punchlines or entendres or metaphors

Ice Cube is another great artist that didn't have "bars" like that...but he had great storytelling and concepts like Kendrick...

This era of Hip Hop is probably the most diverse...you can just enjoy just one segment of Hip Hop and never even pay attention to the mainstream...

2000s was easily the shyttiest era of Hip Hop, the beats sounded like shyt, rapping was shytty, everything was centralized in fukking New York, everybody was trying to be a super thug....

It was trash...

Then Kanye West came...and ushered in a new era...and musicality came back and then innovation within the genre came back...and Hip Hop became decentralized...
