I don’t think Lupe is getting “better” in the traditional sense.

He’s ALWAYS been this great. There’s a reason why, before there was a Kendrick Lamar or J.Cole; Lupe was the one Nas, Jay-Z, and Kanye West were gushing over.

Food & Liquor was incredible, but it would’ve been even moreso had the album not leaked and he was able to put it out as he wanted.

The Cool is (in my opinion) a classic. Or at least 4.75 Mics. This is the ONE Lupe album from his Atlantic days that wasn’t fukked in some way.

We all know what happened with Lasers and the fukkery that Atlantic put him through to even get it out.

F&L2 was supposed to be a double album. The label fukked him over again and he cancelled the double release. Plus there were too many love songs.

Tetsuo & Youth was FINALLY Lupe unleashed. Doing exactly what he wanted to, and it was an incredible achievement.

Drogas Light was a final “fukk You” to Atlantic, to get completely off the label. An album full of “Vaults” material that didn’t adhere to a theme or narrative. Nevertheless it was pretty solid.

So you’ve got literally TWO albums where his artistic vision wasn’t compromised. The Cool & T&Y. Its not a coincidence that those happen to be his best projects. Now we have Drogas Wave, another, surprise surprise....uncompromised Lupe album that happens to be an incredible achievement in supreme lyricism and complimentary production.

Give Lupe space to be Lupe. And you are given greatness. Thats the key

Really rock wth this. Not to overly produced and he killed that weird accent/twang he had when rapping on certain songs.

A bit too long and to many interludes. But a great album.
And i havent begun to dissect lyrics yet.

Pretty much. F&L seems relatively hands off from Atlantic too.

DROGAS Light was made so his live shows had more hype shyt to perform (and to be done with Atlantic). He's even said this on one of his IG Live videos before.

I've seen him live like 4 times, he would always have freestyle to something lit like Don't Like, or play Next 2 It a couple times when he wanted to just scale it back and just have a fun show.

Now with the songs on DROGAS Light he has more to work with to get his crowd turnt

Twenty-one different producers were involved in Lupe's album-making process, many of those production scores were joint efforts, and a good majority were self-produced.
