"but punchline entendre lyrically I don’t see it.”

This is kind of Lu's problem. He OVERVALUES dense metaphors/wordplay. On paper, very few can write like Lu but the actual act of rapping (voice, flow, delivery, etc) its his achilles heel. Still a goat.
This sums it up. In a battle rap(not URL stuff) but between acclaimed artists, getting to the point is better than gymnasitc filler.

Lupe albums are only critically acclaimed in hip hop, kendrick albums are both acclaimed as rap albums but even more so as music albums for their musical composition. Tpab is literally praised for having some of the best jazz elements we've heard to the point where a legend like Herbie Hancock tried to make his own TPAB featuring kendrick's collaborators.

Here's the huge difference. It has nothing to do with commercial success.

I agree with the dude, you can't compare them, you just can't. Lupe albums also aren't acclaimed to the point where as rap albums they would enter the pantheon like Illmatic.
It's also valid for kdot albums though, you can't compare gkmc to tpab either, gkmc is an amazing rap album, but it doesn't have half the considerations TPAB is getting as an "album" (not just rap)

No offense but 1) it's not on the same level of acclaim amongst rap critics and 2) lupe records never transcended rap music. You'll never see any critic, music lover, expert, musician talking about the good notes, the scales scales, the syncopation, the polyrhythms, the keys, the composition on a lupe album. Matter of fact, all his albums have major musical flaws despite him having great rapping on them.

This is a rap forum and I understand damn well rapping matters the most on here, but you are not allowed to claim lupe's first 2 albums can play in the same league as kendrick's albums. Kendrick is not a dude that just rap over a beat and then add a few choruses.
Yall not considering the fact that of course more cacs would talk about Kendrick’s albums than Lupe’s because Kendrick has enjoyed more pop success. So it comes to a point where opinions get skewed because cacs dont really care about rap unless its topping the charts.

Nas and Hov alone saying what they said about Lupe holds just as much weight as some college intern white kid that majored in journalism but not hip hop itself. And there’s plenty of receipts of RAPPERS holding Lupe’s craft up to a high level of respect, not just unseasoned white kids.
This sums it up. In a battle rap(not URL stuff) but between acclaimed artists, getting to the point is better than gymnasitc filler.
lupe did that in the royce diss. Royce was the one that was on that rappity rap shyt with filler bars and ended up scorched.

Lupe Fiasco's discography is not seeing Kendrick Lamar's in any capacity.

Dude is literally the 2024 Canibus and is relegated to forum posts where his mediocre
song writing is spoken of in whispers.

A perfect example of early aughts pseudointellectualism masquerading as deeper than
it really is.

A musician who has effectively been stuck in a rut since 2007 and has remade failure six or seven times
with each remake worst and more obtuse than the last.

It's music for the kinds of special snowflake brehs who read Ta-Nehisis Coates and watch T1J on youtube
and can't wait Black-splain to their captive all white audience about the nuances of Hip-Hop and Blackness while
largely keeping no black company themselves.

The type of uncultured brehs to spaz over Lupe fiasco doing the shyttiest Sound Garden imitation:

fukking mediocre.

I remember TheColi unironically hyping this shyt up now years later we get "Yeah TPAB Is TOO BLACK, only WHITE LIBERALS like it".

:pachaha:

Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda want their style back.

On Lupe Vs Mos

at this point, it's like issuing a challenge to Andre 3k.

shyt is like going to an old folks home and pressing a retired boxer.

"Yeah bro, I was so hard when I pressed that geriatric breh, he didn't even try and fight back!">

Lupe made a grunge song for the Twilight Soundtrack? :dahell:

That’s how you know I haven’t been paying attention to anything Lupe past FNL and The Cool.

Kendrick ain't even the real deal; dude can rap. He gave us two classics, I'll give him that. But he ain't no rebel and he's an industry baby like Lil Nas n'em. He ain't no Ice Cube.

When his plant ass drops some shyt like this talk to me, he'll never go against the establishment, cause the establishment is who made him.

^^ That nikka right there is the real West Coast GOAT who really belongs in the top 5 mentions, Not no scary ass Kungfu Kenny.

Ole I'ma drop an album every 5 years ass nikka, ole "whaddabout black on black crime" ass nikka. Ole Puppet ass nikka. Ole " my aunty my uncle, my uncle my aunty" ass nikka.

When u see nikkas like Charlamagne who isn't being held accountable for them accusations or his behavior on his platform supporting this plant ass nikka just know is cause dem ppl protecting they puppets.

None of the Eastcoast acts outside of public enemy went against the grain either, using this logic. NOI Ice Cube is one of one coast to coast. That shouldn’t be a Kendrick slight, that’s a rap slight in general. Ironically, white ppl were cubes biggest fans. Being radical was in style. The establishment loved that shyt. Cube wasn’t signed to some small black independent label. :mjlol:

Don't even get me started on the Hip-Hop Kumite bullshyt.

Like K. Dot was supposed to drop Control and then respond to half the game, each with a uniquely crafted diss track.

When half of those clowns effectively faded out of the game since then.

Like people unironically post the Lupe fiasco, Jay Electronica and Joe BadA$$ responses like ANYONE remembers that shyt.
