i totally get what your saying man, 7even's Travels was... my....shyt....

and yes Slug did pave the way for artists like Kanye and Lupe , however i don't think i would classify lupe in the mold of slug by any sorts....lupe is more comparable to Brother Ali than slug....

and as far as Slug being more skilled, i think its a toss up......Slug is more direct, yet he can take it there if need be, but its just hard to erase what i've heard from Lupe with joints like FAILURE etc etc

and yes, i've heard somewhere about that whole "persona" that was created for lupe, however i would like to learn more about it, "enlighten" me please sir

reference the portions of this thread.

where i said non knowing culturally relevent fans or toys.

erroneously tried to give lupe.

the flagship artist of emo, on the underground and major, wrongly.

when slug already did everything humanly possible in the genre.

artisitcally or business wise predating lupe and ye.

lupe and ye are spreadsheet marketing major label releases to capitalize on emo from a major label.

after the p&d, slug/atmosphere deal....

which was rolling when ye made features with keyshia cole and dialated.

anyone who knows the history know this.

This is just another example of why these new untested rappers shouldn't be mentioned along side the legends of the game. In 10-15 years, if they've been consistent, sure....but Lupe was "the new Nas!" after 1 album, I told people "nah, chill, let's see where he is in 5-6 years"....and he's been ass for a while now.

Fred.

iverson, grant hill and tracy mcgrady were also each at some point called "the next jordan". that didn't work out either.

that being said, lupe is still one of my favorite rappers to come out in the last decade and he still has two albums and three mixtapes i love. i even came to really enjoy FOTP even though i initially called it wack. "lasers" still is the only real blemish on his track record as far as i'm concerned. so i'm not gonna judge him off two songs. i'm sure he knows the expectations he has set by naming his album the sequel to "food and liquor" and i will reserve judgment until the full album is out.

Yeah after listening to it a few more times it has grown on me. Not the the right song for a single but I can't hate on the message though.

I got a daughter so I felt where he was coming from :manny:
