I don’t think they have to rap about nothing, nor do I want lyrical miracle gymnastics. I’m saying when people go into an album focused entirely on a theme it can limit the type of records you do, the type of shyt you talk about etc....especially if the topic is limited in scope (ie "lets do an album about Amy Winehouse").Some artists find rapping for the sake of rapping boring. MC’s like Nas and Lupe have already MASTERED “Rap” as a form of lyrical miracle expression. They choose concepts because it challenges them.
I have NO idea why you’d even suggest Lupe simply “rap” when he literally came in the game as a conceptual rapper. Food & Liquor and The Cool are BOTH concept albums and Lasers would’ve been as well if Atlantic hadn’t fukked him over. I don’t even think Lupe would feel the need to rap anymore if he ran out of ideas for concepts.
The last time Nas went conceptual we Untitled and Distant Relatives, which were both EXCELLENT albums that stand the test of time and add weight to his legacy
Nah
He coulda gotten lazy in lockdown
Nas is on record and rather recently saying Lu is is the closest to him...I personaly get the vibe from Nas interview on SOLE that he does not respect lyricist that are lyrical just for the sake of being lyrical. And that would be possible a rapper like Lupe.
Also Nas didn't return contact further with Lupe. That CLEARLY means Nas was not interested in colabing with Lupe.

Life Is Good is on some level about his relationship/marriage...but it’s not the dominant theme nor is it truly a concept album. It's more about nostalgia/past times than marriage - in fact the marriage fits into that theme of reflecting on the past. Accident Murderers got nothing to do with Kelis lol. And the album is great because it's Nas giving you glimpses of all his styles - the introspection (You Wouldn't Understand), the shyt talking (Loco-Motive), reminiscing (Back When), personal shyt (Daughters)...and the marriage (Bye Baby). Most great albums are like that.
My problem with Lupe has been that he gets so focused on these weird, insular concepts and gimmicks that he ends up rapping from the perspective of a hamburber instead of giving people...himself. Stuff like Mural doesn't impress me at this point. I'm far more interested in the examination of self, or the examination of community...with some shyt talking thrown in too of course because at the end of the day it's hip hop. That's Nas at his best to me. I feel like Lupe and some others took tracks like I Gave You Power and thought "I need to do that" when in reality, you need to do what works for you. You can only get away with that type of shyt once. When you over use it you end up with shyt Project Roach, which isn't wavy. It's like if Kendrick did another album and at the end the "twist" is that he's having a conversation with Biggie this time. You only get to use that card once man - and if you do it right (I Gave You Power, I Can't Wake Up, Homecoming, Fame, Kick Push, etc) you make something truly special.
He was just being nice in the interview.
In the clip Lupe SAID HE fukkING DIDN'T CONTACT HIM BACK ABOUT THE EP IDEA.
It's not fukking happening GET OVER IT
Sound like you need to take them Kendrick posters off your wall then brehWanting to do a concept project about Amy Winehouse is the most on-brand Lupe thing ever. Just rap, man. Not everything has to be some forced, elaborate concept. People don’t want to hear that shyt. I’m glad Nas moved away from limiting himself with concept albums. If you’re gonna do concept albums, do a loose concept like Life Is Good.
I’m a Lupe hater/bitter former stan tho so you all know I’m biased.
came in to post thisNas wanted Em on a Daughters remix. Em declined.
Try again with that bullshyt

people acting like nas does not have a long history of rapping with lyrical rappers like pun,az,g rap, prodigy, ghostface, etc
why should he be scared?
another thing i've noticed about these nas x [insert artist] collabo stories is that nas never (correct me if i'm wrong) talks about these 'conversations about possible callobo' shyt that he has with these other artists. it's always the other artist that mentions it.
just an observation
Nas literaly COINED THE PHRASE "MURDER YOU ON YOUR OWN shyt" on "Ether" one of the first if not the first in Rap history to articulate the idea lyrically of someone being outdone on their own song by a featured rapper.
Nas has CLEARLY demonstrated that he is not interested in collabing on a song with one of the most skilled technical lyricist in the history of Rap.
There is a reason Nas hasn't collabed with a Eminem either
With rappity Rap lyrical miracle rappers collabs you run the risk of unfairly being perceived as getting murdered on your own shyt, even if the rappity rappers verse was not as relatabl, impactful or street credible.
Has DEMONATRATED appreciation by collabing with the Rick Ross's the the Prodigys because they are of a credible street, street narrators as well as lyricist and proficient lyrical technicians.
I wanna Neg the person that posted that tweet
