White superstar:

“So what if he’s a 260 pound point guard”

“So what if he doesn’t train his body or workout in the off season?”

“So what if he has a chronic injury?”

“So what if he drinks like a sailor?”

“So what if he doesn’t try on defense?”

Black superstar:

“Hey this guy is in great shape and never gets in any trouble off the court, but he posted an Amazon link to a movie. Trade and suspend him”
I can't possibly fathom why you think any of this makes sense.

Especially when there's a Black superstar in the N.O. who has a considerably worse problem with weight and conditioning, and hasn't had any success whatsoever, and he still hasn't been traded. If you're taking your team on multiple deep playoff runs, and you're the only player on the team who doesn't have a drop off in play, then how could any of those foibles possibly be an issue to where it's a legitimate problem?

Why speak about Luka as if he can't stay on the floor and can't take his team to the playoffs?

The irony is when Kyrie was Luka’s age he would get injured so much there were threads on here calling him MyKnee Hurting :skip:

I said the same thing the other day...

If the Maverick's main concern was improving on the defensive end, why trade your young superstar generational talent who is the main reason as to why you are in “win now” mode when you could've just made trades to accommodate him and the team's defense? Sure, it wouldn't have been an AD, but there are other serviceable guys out there who can provide the necessary defense.

That's why people are flaming and laughing at them while saying it's one of the worst trades in NBA history because it doesn't make any sense, most franchises would be looking to accommodate their young superstars with pieces that can minimize their flaws in certain areas, not trade them away to get better, how do you get better by trading away your homegrown generational superstar that you could've built a championship-caliber team around for the next decade?

That's why this trade is awful because no franchise in NBA history has ever traded or let alone convinced themselves that they'd get better by trading away a superstar cornerstone who puts up MVP numbers and isn't in their prime just yet.

Shyt is oxymoronic and takes a whole mental gymnastics to make sense of it all, and even then, it still doesn't add up.

Nobody in their right mind truly believes Kyrie and AD will lead Dallas to a championship, I think most people would be confident enough to bet on their life savings on that likelihood.
And it's not like their defense was the problem against the Celtics.

It's that nobody besides Luka could score.

The whole damn series was both teams going through these extensive lulls where offense was hard to come by; we even saw the Celtics' best player be near-damn ineffective on offense for large periods of the Finals. This is why I can't comprehend anyone in this thread talking about Luka's [lack of] defense or that the Mavs needed to drastically alter their defensive compass as if that is the difference between them winning and losing a title.

In wake of the trade, Nico was spinning some bullshyt about defense winning championships, well, I wonder what he'll be saying when the Mavs crash out in the playoffs because a lack of offense ultimately ends up being their downfall.
