Nico Harrison clearly subscribes to the idea that to be a true #1 and leader of a team that will lead to an NBA Championship, a players work ethic has to be at a certain level. Seems to me Doncic doesnt have the Gym Rat work ethic ala Kobe Bryant, which turned Harrison off...

Cant say that I agree, but I get his point. Its hards to be a true leader if your best player isnt out working nearly everyone on the team. Sets bad examples.

I do not disagree with you. But say the Mavs win the Championship this season, does that Vindicate Nico?
I think there's more to it than simply winning a championship this season.

I mean sure, it looks great on the surface if they win a title, and it certainly gives him clearance from making what look to be the worst trade in modern NBA history, but there many other folds to this:

What free agents and lottery prospects in the future will want to go to Dallas given how Luka was disposed of? What happens next season when AD and Kyrie (if he stays) are another year older and unlikely to repeat? What happens 3-4 years from now when Luka is still in his prime and the Mavs (as they are now) have disbanded and they're back to rebuilding again, trying to find their next franchise centerpiece?

Financially and logistically, there really isn't a path for the Mavs to come out of this as winners, certainly not in the long run.

Kobe won championships. Harden never missed the playoffs but hasn't been to the Finals since he was in OKC as the third option.

if they win the championship this year nico descends into utter megalomania. he'd be full-on executing players.

This is why for me, I hate how some teams and fanbases of these teams are quick nowadays to break up a good thing just for a quick shot at a chip that might not transpire.

It's like when people were suggesting a few years ago that should break up the Brown and Tatum tandem for a Dame or KD just for a quick run for a title or how even in this thread people were suggesting the Cavs should break up their team chemistry and depth to add a 40 year LeBron thinking it'll lead to an instant chip when the Cavs currently contracted are primed to be in championship contention for the next 5 years.

It's shortsighted, I get wanting to win and be the champ but I feel like some teams and fans aren't thinking how rushing the process hurts the franchise in the long run. As you said, if this all doesn't pan out with Kyrie and AD, Dallas will be back in rebuild mode while suffering from the pains of losing for years to come, searching for the next talent with a superstar ceiling, and it'll be harder than it was in 2018 because draft talent has been pretty dismal the last few years. They'll regret their decision to part ways with Luka.
