I know I keep mentioning the business aspect of this trade. But did ya'll know the Mavs are number 1 in season attendance. Am I overrated Luka's global status? Because to me, this is almost like the Rockets if they were to trade Yao Ming in his prime. Or am I reaching?
You're not reaching.

Remove his basketball ability from the situation, it's a horrendous decision from a financial standpoint. You'll still have the diehard fans, but you best believe if/when they crash out in the playoffs this season, their attendance will start declining and so will all their profit margins.

Even a franchise like the Lakers, who'd still have monetary success, regardless of the personnel on the squad, they wouldn't dare let go of someone like Luka, even if he was half the player, if he was still that big of a draw for the franchise to capatilize off. The fact that Luka just landed in their lap like this (out of all the franchises) is what makes this even harder to believe.

He doesn't even need to bring the Lakers any championships. The Lakers won just by simply having him.

He's one of the most marketable players in the league. They make that $350 million that's due to him back easy. He's a fun drunk. People love fun drunks.

Same thing I'm thinking. Even if the Mavs win a ship in the next two years, it's not enough to offset the financial loss that Luka brings.

Breh you're drinkin the Kool aid

We saw them let Brunson go cuz they didn't wanna pay

Now they letting Luka go right before he could get paid

dude is homies with Pelinka and got finessed, of course they gonna say whatever they can to make you believe it was a good choice. He could've gotten WAY more for the kid

You only got 2 MAYBE 3 years to make it work with AD, and half of those guys could walk before it's over (And you won't attract any good free agents after they saw this move)

Vs.

8-10 years to get Luka to buy in to better health

One of these things gives you a longer window than the other, it's really that simple from a business AND basketball perspective
8-10 years to buy in but hasn’t in 7 yrs:jbhmm:

Again let’s be clear I’m glad Lakers traded for him. My main point is posters acting as if he hasn’t had these issues with weight & conditioning & it’s not a concern. Just keep it a buck & admit you’re giving him a pass because to his credit he’s still been able to perform.

@Gil Scott-Heroin if Luka proves me wrong that he can get his weight & body together I’ll admit I was wrong. Won’t find me running & magically popping back up when the heat dies down
You're wrong from the jump, that's why you're getting all this pushback from cats in this thread.

What I'm trying to figure out is, why you think his weight/conditioning issues are reasons for a franchise to trade him? This isn't a Zion situation. Shaq had weight and conditioning issues during his prime, yet that didn't stop him from being a dominant player. That shouldn't give cause to a franchise to trade him because of that. Luka's issues stem from the fact he plays hoops all year round and doesn't have a rest period to reset his body.

I don't know why the obviousness of this needs to be reiterated.

He totaled more minutes than any other player last season, all the while playing at an elite level, yet you're trying to force this talking point about his conditioning.

Make it make sense.

You didnt say the same level. You said a defensive scoring big. A DPOY that averages just under 2 points under Davis right now
The man wanted AD and went and got him. You think JJJ and AD are of similar or equal value. Cool

Y’all gonna bytch about this shyt literally for the next 15 fukking years. It’s done, it’s over, deal with it :russ:

None of these conditioning issues have stopped him from performing in the playoffs
