AD averaging 25/12 and cats talking like he's Bismack Biyombo
The Mavs are already the top rim-protecting team in the league and then add an elite one
Ya talking emotionally if you think this is a bad trade for Dallas
It's a bad trade, no matter how you spin, because you've thrown away your whole future for a quick run to a title that might not ever happen.
Nobody is saying AD is a bum. We all know he's an all-time great and future Hof, but trading away a young generational star in their peak for a past their prime, still elite yet injury-prone big man who's past 30 and sometimes inconsistent is a terrible move. Maverick fans have a reason to be angry because it's not just about winning a quick title but building a winning culture with a franchise guy, and Nico, the GM, sounds a bit delusional in his assessment of the team's ceiling making the trade even more ridiculous.
He claims they're in win-now mode, but the only reason why they were in that position was because of Luka. He was their championship window. So you trade away the guy who brought you there, but for some odd reason, you still think you'll go far without him? That's just crazy; this may go down as one of the worst trades of all time because of hindsight and the tone-deaf nature surrounding the Maverick's decision to part ways with a once-in-a-lifetime player over trivial reasons (weight, defense, etc).
It's like when people were thirsting for the Celtics to mess up their future by trading one of their franchise players, Jaylen Brown, who many believed wasn't worth the money, for an older and injury-prone Dame Lillard or Kevin Durant for a quick title run when the smarter thing was to stand pat with one-half of their franchise guys and it turned out to work in their favor as they've won a title and now are in position to win a few more, potentially.
Some fans gotta stop being so quick for their teams to throw away their younger franchise stars for older and sometimes injury-prone stars just to hurry and win a title. You gotta learn to be patient. The Celtics did that, and it's paying off.
