I knew I would see Central Cee in here lol.

Don't know why US seem to gravitate towards him more than others.
He's a basic MC.

You answered your own question :mjlol:

The younger US audience don't care about lyrics at all no more. Raye a singer but the few songs she rap, on she got better bars and flow than the Instathots they promote as rappers here.

Central Cee just by having some cleverness and rhyme schemes on a higher level than most in his age range here. For me, he too shallow with his content most the time and don't switch up his flow enough, but he got talent.

I don't know if I can even list an American rapper under 30 that emphasize lyricism and content at all and is actually popping. The ones that's actually nice get pushed to the side. shyt is sad.

At least the UK recognize the younger acts that speak on real shyt and put effort into the craft lyrically.

Don’t think y’all are there yet but I’ll admit Stormzy was going off on the track in the OP when his verse first started. Do y’all have a Flex or LA Leakers freestyle platform out there that up and coming rappers go to?

"
Take a look at these diamonds wrong
It's a life of squintin', can't just stare
With bae through thick and thin
She already thick, so I'm halfway there
Brown and bad
Couldn't change my mind, I was halfway there
One hundred meters, huh
I just put nine gyal in a Sprinter (uh)"

I guess the thing about the UK is that coming up through grime and the freestyle culture, means that being able to spit is a prerequisite. Just like how New York once was.

So just like NY, all the stars are also spittas while in the US it’s mixed.

Well said..

Tbh I always felt lyricism was always a bit of an afterthought with a lot of British rap. There was a British HipHop scene and some lyrical rappers, but it never got that big outside of white students... the hood was normally listening to dancefloor music - dancehall, jungle, ragga into dnb, garage etc later on - all there's space for on top of most jungle is "DJ EZ ON THE ONES AND TWOS, MC STAYIN ON HIS PS AND QS", just hyping a crowd... even in the Grime era properly lyrical MCs were still the minority. It was usually about set ups and punches for impact rather than dropping science.

It was when Grime got slowed down to Drill IMO that MCs got enough space to really craft bars and become the main focus of tracks... this generation has some SERIOUS lyricists, probably the best the UK ever produced. The game CHANGED when Giggs first dropped and Flowdan first hooked up with The Bug.
