I wouldn’t even consider the songs in here UK rap. Nobody in the ends listens to this. Basically white people music to us

If you want bars you gotta listen to battle rap or trap dancehall

Couple of these uk guys got bars tho

I always say, there’s mandem from the endz on them Nas, jay levels. Just never went mainstream

I guess the thing about the UK is that coming up through grime and the freestyle culture, means that being able to spit is a prerequisite. Just like how New York once was.

So just like NY, all the stars are also spittas while in the US it’s mixed.

The last generation of top US rappers emphasizing lyricism was Kendrick and Cole. And you can throw Drake in here too even though he Canadian and spitting someone else's lyrics :mjlol:

And they all damn near 40. I ain't saying there's no young rappers in the US that's lyrical, but they not at the forefront or getting a real push. In the UK you got dudes like Dave in that 25 year age range that's popping and at the forefront and they taking their bars and content seriously.

Probably because UK rap as a big commercial enterprise only took off the last decade. So the scene is bubbling, you got a lot of competition and creativity and less label interference. They got a lot of quality artists in the wavy lane too but don't seem to come at the expense of the lyrcists.

Within the past few years, there is no denying they put more of an emphasis on lyrics. Most of the newer stateside rappers can barely string together a coherent sentence.

Central Cee is cool but overall...nah. A lot of grime has the same issue a lot of US rap has with bars: the bars are just social media posts in rap format. Location, what you're doing, what you're wearing, where you're going next, etc all laid out in the most literal and linear fashion.

Lil Simz is the best UK rapper IMO and is better than most mainstream American rappers because she's not stuck in that Instagram caption zeitgeist.
