Oh, CARICOM is the Caribbean organization created to organize the Caribbean diaspora in order to seek reparations from the UK for slavery and colonialism.
When we explain what ADOS is and the purpose it was created for, we’re called divisive.
When we inform/remind some Caribbean folk that they have a similar organization already doing work for them, apparently that’s a strawman argument.
Maybe you can make it make sense.

That's not the purpose of CARICOM, and never has been. Talk of reparations has been floated at conferences when those member heads of state meet, sure...but it's a waste of time argument because many of the member states are only independent and not full republics in their own right, so that talk will go about as far as...well, whatever is going on in this thread, really.

FBA/ADOS is divisive and it's on purpose. If you hear us sparking up our own ethnicity and advocating for our own interests and you get upset then all it does is reconfirm why we needed to do it in the first place.

Thank you, I am aware. It's also effectively irrelevant, both to whatever point is trying to be made in here and in practice.
Maybe reparations isn’t the main purpose but CARICOM is something designed to organize and strategize solely for the benefit of members of the Caribbean diaspora, not all black people.
And that’s what they should be doing.
Nobody calls them divisive for it.
Have they put out a statement in support of American blacks in regard to everything going on right now?
Point is, everybody has their own thing, let us have ours.
We should all be able to do that and still be able to come to the table for the greater good of the entire diaspora as needed.
That’s your opinion on the matter, but I’m quite sure there are very many people still fighting to make it a reality... as they should.
The divisive talks come because of the disses tbh, and the the rhetoric espoused by Tariq and even some in this thread, at the root having the organisation and also drawing on the importance of lineage is legitimate.

ADOS is now the advocacy AA/ADOS whose ancestors were enslaved in Colonial and Antebellum era U.S.
Yes, NCOBRA has been advocating for YEARS - but it wasn't specific for ADOS. And they are appreciated.
But, not since Callie House and Mr. dikkerson has there been a specific call/demand for reparations -- for descendants of the enslaved in Colonial and Antebellum era U.S only/specifically.
