About 45 minutes of integral character development. I've seen both versions, it's ridiculous how much better the movie is with the directors cut. One of my favorite movies, actually.

I fukkING KNEW this movie was going to be bad, though. Even at his best Ridley isn't the type of director to properly replicate the subtlety in Cormac's work. He likes these vivid characters, and melodrama. Applying his stylistic flourishes to a Cormac script was only ever going to come off cheesy. The casting alone was enough to cause worry. Why the hell do you get Cameron Diaz to portray what is clearly supposed to be a complex character? :dwillhuh: Not to mention just from the vibe he's giving off in the trailers, Pitt's character looks to be a rehash of Harrelson's from No Country.

I know I'm still going to give it a shot (eventually) in hopes of being wrong, but nothing about this movie sat right with me.

oh yeah what did they add? they gave the film a definitive ending with balian willingly giving up israel and being confronted by the guy who was stripped naked and marched across the battlefield on an ass, he came back at the end, balian refused to fight him but would rather forgive him, but they eventually wound up crossing swords and bailian kicked his ass, instead of killing him he tells him next time he does rise, that he should rise a knight.

also this funny azz scene when theyre defending the walls of israel the christian preacher was like "CONVER TO ISLAM! REPENT LATER!" balian looks at him like :stopitslime: "You sure taught me a great deal about christianity father."

"Holiness is in Right Action, And courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themeselves "

From jump, they cut out a ton of shyt from the beginning which actually explains why Bloom would go in the first place. They cut out the entire plot with Eva Green's son (not even mentioned in the movie) which helps explain why she supported her husband, and they took out some Bloom/Green shyt and shyt that showed more of Green's husband and her brother.

Pretty much the biggest problem people had with the movie (the plot was illogical) is fixed in the directors cut.

I gotta disagree, Black Hawk Down, Matchstick Men (love love love this film), American Gangster and Prometheus were very good imo. Despite it's flaws, I really really like Prometheus. I also enjoyed Kingdom of Heaven but it got shyt on by critics. Has anyone seen Robin Hood? Never caught that flick.
you sound like a ridley scott apologist breh AG was massively underwhelming and KoH was :scusthov:

I completely understand the criticisms and flaws in the film Prometheus. I'm an uber sci-fi nerd and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I also actually enjoyed the ambiguity because there were clues throughout the movie if you pay attention. I'm not the biggest Lindelof fan and wished they had gone with the original script that they had because in the original script (think the original script writer was Jon Spaights and you can find the script online) it is a DIRECT prequel to alien instead of being a quasi-prequel. I really enjoyed the visual atmosphere Ridley created in the film. That movie is far from "terrible" though, in my opinion. Maybe it was terrible to you based on your expectations.

Yeah, I'll see it anyway....but, from the preview I could see it going that way, too much flash and 'quirkiness', not just Javier Bardem with another ridiculous hairstyle, but throw Brad Pitt in there with a fukking cowboy hat, don't give any of the characters names....I think parts will be enjoyable, hopefully it doesn't embarrass itself with it's disregard for it's subject matter, and has some elements of Mccarthy's better noirish western style....Ridley Scott's done some good things, but he and his brother, for the most part are too Hollywood, that cheap quick/edit technique, and overall lack substance and depth, replaced with big stars and stylized violence...Michael Mann would have been a better choice, for a Mccarthy spec script set in El Paso/Juarez, he has more of an artistic, realists approach to the material, I'll see over the weekend.

After reading some reviews, NY TImes, in particular, I may like this more then others, even myself thought, if it's as bleak and nihilistic as it sounds....NY Times made it sound like something I'd really like...
