I know many of you "real" gamers love to throw sports gamers into the "casual" gamer category like they don't matter, but don't be fooled. Traditionally, sports games have sold many a system over the years. While most of you wait 3-5 years for the next installment of your favorite FPS or action game to come out, many sports gamers are dropping money on their games every year, that's consistent revenue for the gaming industry.....and waiting for sports games keeps a constant buzz & level of excitement going year round. Something that it seems is missing right now for these new systems. Not only that, but once they have a new system, many sports gamers will pick up mass selling games like the Battlefield's, the COD's, the GTA's, etc. But those games alone aren't going to sell them systems.
I think PS3/X360 has had some pretty good sports games, but it's been a letdown overall and has mainly lived off the reputation of the PS2/Xbox. You had so many options and great sports games to choose from during that era.
Now with Madden being trash for an entire generation and the only football option, college football being dead, only one option for baseball, NBA 2K is showing it's flaws, all that's left is soccer and hockey. FIFA is a constant, but it's not gonna sell systems the way a complete rotating catalog of good sports games would. In the long run, I think it's gonna have an effect.
