I don't buy the fact that you have to train obviously if you train you will have a better knowledge of the BJJ game but I've never trained and I feel like I pick up something everytime I watch and feel at this point I got a decent grasp of the BJJ game obviously not in applying it myself but understanding when high skilled BJJ guys apply it affectively.

nah ure right...im talking on these professional journalists. I said "to have an opinion" and thats not right

But still...go get ure JJ on

I didnt mean to sound like an elitist when i made my comment. I know quite a few people who are like you, that understand the game, and thats 100% fine by me. I meant it as a broad statement that some "journalists" have when taking into consideration about who's winning a fight, etc etc.

The judging is ridiculous

i cant believe its been as bad as it has been...and its still that way. I get it while the sport was coming up...no excuse for it to remain that way. The ufc doest hire them even, they are appointed by the athletic commisions. How they select beats the hell out of me

Its been horrible lately. Wrestlers automatically have a huge advantage, wheras some BJJ guys are at a disadvantage. I always tell people not to confuse positioning with activity. I'm tired of these lay and pray decsisions. I'd like to see more throwback to the Pride days, where dudes would get favorable treatment for attempting submissions while in the guard...ESPECIALLY while in half guard.

if a guy gets a takedown...and its a stalemate once the fight gets to the ground, then the guy who landed the takedown would be winning the fight just for taking it there

If a guy gets a takedown...and the guy on the bottom is threatening the whole time...and the guy on top is just being defensive bc of threatening submission attempts, then its an advantage to the guy on the bottom

Im not a big Eddie Bravo guy, but I respect that once u get into "mission control" its automatically an advantage to the guy on bottom (and should be clear to the judges). U cant really be hit from that position when its locked in, and have the ability to threaten with a lot of attacks (specifically omoplata (even tho nobody ever finishes it and its just a sweep), triangle attempts, armbar attempts, and sweeps)

Dont disagree with anything you said. I also get irritated with the refs for not standing these guys up sooner when theyre on top(article on the way about that btw :steviej:)

Now that JJ is getting giant in the USA...takedowns and wrestling need to be a giant part of the sport (of JJ)

I dont know about you, but my first place i trained neglected the takedown aspect too much

Its kinda like "thats great that u have awesome JJ...but if u cant get the fight to the ground who gives a shyt??"

Pulling guard isnt really great in MMA, as without the gi' the guard isnt as effective. U get a guy with "amazing jiujitsu" with really good wrestling/takedowns..JJitsu can dominate this sport i feel like.

Who are great BJJ guys with really good takedowns?

Ricardo Arona is the first guy that comes to mind (which apparently he is out teaching big butt bisches to surf in Rio)

Chris Weidman comes to mind just recently. Who knows about his guard, but his ability to latch onto necks with Guilltoines/darce/brabos are intense

High level wrestling/elite BJJ is the next evolution of this sport

We drill takedowns, but we dont really do live action if you know what i mean. Sometimes, he'll do 2 mins standing, and you gotta take your partner down as much as you can, then switch, shyt is :noah:

Were lucky here in PA though, this is wrestling country, i faced a wrester in a no gi tournament and that dude tried to muscle me :manny:

Vinny Maghales has pretty good takedowns,Arona is awesome. Estima as well, hes making his MMA debut this week. Jacare comes to mind as well. The problem with using bjj in MMA fights is that its almost always secondary to striking, which is fine, but some guys dont just shoot for the takedown right away.

and fukk pulling guard. shyt should be an automatic disadvantage

I hear that...but u know what im saying though? BJJ is great...but takedowns need to be a humongous part of that BJJ curriculum

and im good with pulling guard, haha. Rather do that then let some Judo guy dump me on my fukking head, haha. Much rather shoot a double/single on the guy...but if hes been wrestling since he was 6...well shyt, im flopping to my fukkin ass

Vinny is a monster too...cant wait for his next run in the UFC

I trained with him back in January. He's a cool ass dude. I crushed his white belts though, then he threw me in there with his blues, i held up, then he put me in with his purples :noah:

When i head back out there December, im gonna try to do a private with him.

Training takedowns is good and bad at the same time. Great experience, but also a lot easier to get yourself injured. Gotta walk the fine line.

I do wish we'd train standing more often, but i have learned some good takedowns

And yes..thats where everyone gets hurt. Thats where I got hurt (from a dude pulling guard nonetheless)

I feel like the drills should eally have a lot of emphasis on (atleast in my experience) a lot more doubles and singles. If u have a good double leg, ure taking down 99% of the population regardless of weight, without a question. once the fight gets to the ground, its not even fair. Not that im advocating street fighting, but u know what im saying
