Didnt need the thesis have been saying this for the longest time, the resounding approval to the "instant chael sonnen rematch for losing gallantly to the champion" not only revealed that most of these so called journalists cant separate professionalism from personal taste but that they are essentially just fans with credentials passes. The fact that ariel howani is seen as the standard in mma journalism also sadly speaks volumes of just how far it has to go.

agreed. Helwani is the nerd from High School who can't handle fame often asking questions about himself as opposed to anything of worth

Helwani asks good questions as far as im concerned..not afraid to cause a stir...one of the few

Josh Gross reported an injury in an early Ultimate Fighter season that ultimately was a spoiler, and got himself banned for his efforts.
Thats deserved then by the sound of luke's post one would've thought gross reported a story like melzers (regarding showtime locking up certain fighters) and got the pink slip for not knowing his place..What gross did was purest form of incompetence

He was acting like a journalist. His job involves finding stories and informing the public, which is exactly what he did.

Ehhhhhhhhh I feel like MMA just started to really gain ground in the last 10 years the journalist are going to be shotty at this point. In sports that have been around for ages the journalism still is pretty fukking terrible and they have blueprints to follow and they still suck so I'm not going to be to concerned with journalism in MMA even though it is lacking big time.

yeah its gonna be hard to find good journalists...because no one really knows what the fukk is going on in the sport. People that do know what is going on, dont have the journalism skills

They should take all of these journalists and force them to complete a 3 month training camp at Blackhouse or AKA

Thats why i cringe when i read some articles talking about grappling in an MMA fight. I say it over and over again, that people just dont understand the intricancies of BJJ/Judo etc

They have no idea

and nobody does. I feel like u can watch baseball..or football..and not have needed to have done it at a high level to have an opinion on it..buts its different for whatever reason with JJ...or just MMA in general i think. Def with the grappling aspect of it

Cosign 100% theres so many different variables in MMA for someone to just pick up on. A lot of MMA journalists are/were boxing guys. They get painted with the same brush far too often.

It doesnt help that half of the fanbase doesnt understand everything either....or the judges fwiw :manny:

The judging is ridiculous

i cant believe its been as bad as it has been...and its still that way. I get it while the sport was coming up...no excuse for it to remain that way. The ufc doest hire them even, they are appointed by the athletic commisions. How they select beats the hell out of me

Their problem isn't lack of knowledge. They're plenty of sites (I visit Bloody Elbow daily, they're fantastic) with great MMA breakdowns. The problem is they don't have adequate access to UFC. Writers can't criticize Dana or the Fertittas for fear of getting their access restricted.

:rudy: thats conveniently broad, journalism is a case to case type deal.Sometimes u need to be mindful in what you are reporting & factoring in ramifications.

Its like saying entertainment tonight are in the tabloid reporting business so have carte blanche to reveal which cook drank goat blood for allah (in the penultimate episode of hell's kitchen) 3 months before the new season airs. Spike/UFC have a product to sell with TUF and most of that if not all relies on the audience getting sold on various stories.Say most of the season narrative involves the guy gross reported on (who just so happens to be a front runner)
what a waste of time that would be getting invested as a viewer when you know how his story ends

Dont be naive :aicmon:

Theres a lot of bad ones out there...a lot, just talking out of their ass

But i agree...Dana White has struck fear in MMA journalists. And thats pretty much it

Cant Lie...I miss the days when there were only a few cards a year...and their were 2 legitimate top organizations :to:

I don't buy the fact that you have to train obviously if you train you will have a better knowledge of the BJJ game but I've never trained and I feel like I pick up something everytime I watch and feel at this point I got a decent grasp of the BJJ game obviously not in applying it myself but understanding when high skilled BJJ guys apply it affectively.
