They know more than us.. seems like a bad investment to me tho
Articles always say someone sold something but I noticed alot of time people are just leasing this shyt out for a long period of time, but it does have an expiration date

Not sure what his deal is but if he can get this 60-80 mil up front and still be able to cake off of whatever NEW music he makes, I can't call it a bad situation. With companies buying entire catalogs I can see a lot more artist just putting shyt out to make the discography look filled out to sell for a bag.

Having to pay people to chase up money you're owed from all these streaming services and labels can be exhausting and more and more artist are showing us they don't like performing/touring, this is a good alternative for them all things considered.

The year 3030
Okay but it's not like art at all in that sense because you might own that catalog but you can't really stop me from "owning it" either if I just download all that shyt and play it whenever I want.

It only makes sense to own this shyt if you can profit off it somehow.
you don't think are/will? (maybe not in bytch ass logic's case...)

but in other musician's cases...they can license out the songs for tv/movies/etc to make money

Your statement is confusing.....
You're talking as if it's not actively happening...
I'm assuming these entities that are handing out millions of dollars are not dumb drunk business men . Quite sure they're aware of the scenarios you mentioned

Furthermore, wealthy people don't always spend money to turn a profit. Sometimes it's simply about what they're passionate about. And I am passionate about Nas catalog. It doesn't have to make sense to YOU.

Just like Jerry Jones spending 500m on a Yacht doesn't make sense to ME

It’s about the derivative revenue that comes from owning the rights to it breh :takedat:

Nas n Jay somewhere chuckling to themselves with each announcement

No doubt in my mind Jay is going to talk someone into dropping a Billy .

Nas about half that

If you really believe these Media Goat lists are meaningless to artists, you're not paying attention .

All those lists are future bargaining chips in negotiations. Similar to athletes n stats .....

Who wouldn't want to say they own THE hip hop Goat catalog. Or top 3 ....or top ten . It's ART right

These rich billionaires strive on exclusivity

Nasir Jones whole catalog would belong to my Estate if I was stupid rich. This will give me more joy than buying a sports team
This is not what’s happenings, these catalogs are not being systematically purchased en-masse by art collectors

No I get that, I was more talking about you saying

A billionaire owning these catalogs the way he owns art would seem dumb. The sole purpose has to be to flip them quickly for profit, not exclusivity.

Right now I still have no idea how you recoup on this investment. Maybe sell access to AI companies or something :manny:

Logic is the most successful white (I kno he is biracial) rapper after Eminem.

Makes sense :manny:

There are more successful biracial artists out there. Drake and J Cole to be specific.

Drake, Cole, and Logic are actually the Biracial Hip Hop Holy Trinity.

This deal is a nice come up for him. Y’all underestimate his audience. Has a legion of fans. He’s the champion for the socially awkward and confused crowd. Majority of his fanbase is white and Latino. The fool actually had a Billboard #1 album. Catalog definitely worth something
