I'm just getting putting on to them. This album flames so far.
:wow:

You're in for a ride. You'll appreciate this album more if you listen to The Listening and The Minstrel Show first. Ideally Chitlin Circuit and Chitlin Circuit 1.5, as well (mixtapes leading up to The Minstrel Show). After that I'd listen to Connected by The Foreign Exchange (Phonte and a producer named Nicolay) and Sleepers by Big Pooh (his first solo album that dropped) Both Connected and Sleepers dropped in between The Listening and The Minstrel Show.

If you can't find the OG Chitlin Circuit on streaming platforms lemme know.

Appreciate it and much love for the offer, rep. Always a treat to find grown man rap. I'll do the order you suggested.

It really is. I've played this album non-stop since it dropped. I think I've played it more than I played Plugs I met and Bandana, which is saying something because I wore those out in their first week.

One thing I did on my playlist (and I usually hate fukking with album track sequences because I want to listen to it as the artist intended) is I removed the two skits that have no references to Listening or Minstrel Show. So I axed the Dyana skit and Hollerin' skit. It just trims a little bit of fat and for me, it smooths out the listen, while retaining the 3 skits that reference Percy Miracles, Joe Scudda, and Roy Lee.

I made sure that doing this didn't cause any jarring shifts in transition, and it doesn't And it even keeps the cool part after the Roy Lee skit where it goes U-B- and instead of the N you get the starting word "In" from the sample on Sitting Alone. That was a clever transition they did and I wanted to make sure I kept it.

The more I listen to this the more I'm inclined to say I have zero issues with the singing on every track. It's just done so well.

The Dyana skit is a Minstrel show reference though :dwillhuh: It's literally Part 2 of the Diary of a Mad Black Daddy Skit.

I'd add Getback to that list also. 1st album after 9th left. You can hear the shift in their sound and (until MTLW) it's the last album that Tay sounded hungry on in terms of rapping imo.

The thing with Little Brother is that their stuff is never easy to digest yet always satisfying. I think they put out another album that is going to be timeless and looked at fondly. I still listen to the Listening and Minstrel show on a regular basis as well as anything they basically put out from '03-08 every so often. Just another addition to what is a very strong and underrated discography. I they embody the Native Tongues sound as much any of the original members.

As of right now this is the album to beat for 2019.

I'm with you up until that last part...

:dwillhuh: You don't think Tauy sounds hungry on Charity, No News, or all those features in between? On this first joint he sounds damn near angry as fukk on the 2nd verse.

I swear almost no one has heard this Phonte and Elzhi joint. Tay's 2nd verse at the end of this is flames.

Tay can always rap his ass off, but he hasn't gone hard rapping for a whole album since Left Back. Every album always has a couple joints that he sings on. I fw Foreign Exchange, but I'd much rather hear him spit
