The thing with Little Brother is that their stuff is never easy to digest yet always satisfying. I think they put out another album that is going to be timeless and looked at fondly. I still listen to the Listening and Minstrel show on a regular basis as well as anything they basically put out from '03-08 every so often. Just another addition to what is a very strong and underrated discography. I they embody the Native Tongues sound as much any of the original members.

As of right now this is the album to beat for 2019.

Truth.

The Listening is probably one of the most slept-on classics of the early 00's, that should definitely get way more love and respect than it does. That album was everything that's right and impactful about Hip Hop. True masterpiece right there.

Tay can always rap his ass off, but he hasn't gone hard rapping for a whole album since Left Back. Every album always has a couple joints that he sings on. I fw Foreign Exchange, but I'd much rather hear him spit
:hubie: You're one of my favorite poster bro but Phonte literally just dropped an 10-track album last year with rapping on every single track. I mean yeah, there's signing on some of the hooks, but No News is Good news had bars for days. Carity Starts at Home was also after Leftback and there's only 2 out of 12 joints on there with no rapping. So his last 2 solo albums (by that I mean as Phonte and not Foreign Exchange) have had 20 out of 22 joints with rapping on them.

There's definitely singing on hooks, but that's nothing new, right? The dude sang on the first LB song ever recorded, and some of the best LB joints ever (Away From Me, Speed, Slow it Down, All For You, Not Enough) all feature heavy singing. Tay has never been just bar'd the fukk up without some crooning going on.
:manny:

That shyt was in the blueprint from day 1. These were the first two Phonte songs I ever heard back in 2001 and he's signing as well as rapping on both.

@TheDarceKnight I always felt Khrysis shouldve gave Te this beat and it couldve been the title track for Charity Starts at Home

I can here it coming in as the "Home is where Charity starts" echo is fading out out on Who Loves You More then ending it with......Thank God

I can here this being the opener of the next LB album either track 2 or track 3

We need that Jherico Jackson/LB collab over this

Phonte's rapping on NNIGN>MTLW, not saying it was weak on the new album by any stretch, but I thought the wordplay was on a higher plane on the solo.

Phonte continuing his streak of never dropping a wack verse :wow:

Real talk - he's a more potent lyricist and storyteller now than he's ever been.

Every Phonte verse has a Hov-like gem/quotable that you can live with and live by.

The shyt is a gift and I'm not gonna take it for granted.

Even as a huge LB stan that was gonna support regardless, this album blew me away. Zero drop-off at all. If anything its one of their best albums. I haven't heard quality rap skits in a very long time and they all fit perfectly.

As usual they manage to speak for the regular working brehs without crossing the line into sanctimony. I couldn't be happier about this release.
