A lot of brehs in here are exposing themselves.

I bet dollars to donuts most of Russell's and Kareem's detractors in this thread weren't born before 1990.

What would Russell's gameplan against Shaq:pachaha:

"Help! Help!":mjlol:

Breh, you can't compare players from different generations without accounting for the differences in rules, styles of play, training, nutrition, and a myriad of other factors.

Who's to say, with the league's rules, playing style, and bush-league tactics that Shaq would've thrived in Russell's time?

Hakeem and Duncan on the 60s Celtics would have been equally dominant defensively and way more dominant offensively

Maybe they would've won 12 rings :jbhmm:

Not true. That's speculation. Again, it's difficult to judge players from different eras. You MUST judge each player with respect to his individual era.

There's a reason why those players and many others you name admire and idolize Russell.

I'll take the guy with 11 rings, 5 MVPs, and the Finals MVP trophy named after him.

So why are Russell accomplishments more impressive then

fukk outta here.

The nikka played with 5 hall of famers in THEIR PRIME WITH NO REAL FREE AGENCY

Y'all the ones calling him top 5.
Keep it in the era then.

All I can say is with almost Complete certainty is that there are at lead a handful of players that could've done what Russell did

Run the floor. Be a defensive anchor while neutralizing the best player on the other team. Revolutionize the concept of team defense. Be the best player on his team. Win.
In the era, I think Malone would have been a dominant defensive player.

Karl Malone couldn't run the floor?:deadmanny:

He wouldn't be able to bulldoze and dropstep elbows to the face.:shaq2:

He wouldn't be able to travel and palm the ball.:shaq2:

He wouldn't be able to park in the paint for 5 or 6 seconds at a time while displacing his defendant by sheer force.:shaq2:

No charging.:shaq2:

This post shows your basketball knowledge is at 0

The same rules that attempted to stop Wilt (Who Shaq is usually compared to)

All the rules named were created to stop Wilt

- Goaltending

- There was a rule that it is illegal to jump from the free throw line to score, since Wilt and Russell did it so often

- There was a no dunking rule because of Wilt. Just ask Julius Irving why his whole college career, he wasn't allowed to dunk cause of that

- They made the court wider, to prevent from Wilt's inside dominance

- They created a 3 second violation because of Wilt

- They created the offensive foul rule because of Wilt, and were more stricter in those times

All these rules made to make the big man less effective, yet you still had Russell, Wilt, and a young Kareem still dominating in those times

So Shaq would be as dominant in an era where there was No dunking, and offensive fouls being called more harsher? :jbhmm:

And big men back then were 10x more skilled than now on the offensive end
