Man, this whole thing was just so incredibly bland. I really don't feel like making puns because this movie hasn't earned my imagination but like the void of space this movie had no atmosphere whatsoever and ironically given its title is just completely lifeless. The characters are completely flat and have zero personality outside of Ryan Reynolds managing to sneak in a couple of adlibs. There's barely any tension so it is never scary and none of the deaths have any impact because they are handled so poorly (and often so CGI-laden that it looks utterly unconvincing). The movie essentially plays out like someone wrote out a plot synopsis and then they just shot that without adding any vision or originality to it. This shyt could probably turn the most ADD person into @Sensitive Blake Griffin it's just so uneventful.

Do you think that's because it was more realistically drawn than a sci-fi-horror like Aliens? I actually both disagree and agree with you. Meaning, you're right this wasn't as exciting as we've come to expect from this genre. But I also think that's a function of this movie being more realistic. Yeah, the characters are flat, they have a singular passion for science, just like a lot of scientists are. These people just discovered a new organism, so they're gonna be more one-note and focused on whatever skillset they have to do their jobs. That part felt very well done to me. Also the discovery of the organism and how its growth took place was well done, IMO. I disagree that CGI was terrible. Blood in zero gravity probably looks exactly like they showed it. We're not used to seeing any depiction of blood in zero gravity. If anything what we always see in a movie like Alien at zero gravity is unrealistic. I do agree with you about the tension though. It's not constant and as impactful as I think they wanted it, but I did feel it leading up to a few of the death scenes. There were some pacing issues, but overall I was entertained. And I absolutely loved that ending.

I'd give it a 7 out of 10 for this genre.

Two thumbs up for me.

Still two thumbs up for me.

I get your point but they did nothing to even make the characters' traits interesting. You got the Japanese guy who became a father, you got the black guy who was wheelchair bound back on earth, you got the romantic tension between Gyllenhaal and the female Russian commander, etc. but they do absolutely nothing with it except setting it up and then waiting until it becomes their time to try give the deaths some sort of undeserved emotional impact. They never feel like real people, they feel like character descriptions written out on a piece of paper.

I would've liked the ending better if they hadn't completely telegraphed it. They were so unsubtle in setting it up that I sat through the entire end sequence like :shaq2:

The other characters were annoying and irrational.

New York? Queens? :lupe:
a random part of the sea off Vietnam. I got up with my girl and left the cinema as the credits were rolling and a loudass sound came from the speakers, EVERYBODY span around expecting some dope post cred scene but it was just more credits. I didn't even read about the potential post cred scene until I came in this thread :yeshrug:

The reason why it was bland is because it was prolly shot in 2-3 weeks.

This is the tyoe of movie actors make when they have a quick break between movies or the sound stage is the same lot as a more serious movie.

Ryan prolly did his stuff in 1 day.

Still....with that said it had a decent entertainment Factor....

I thought it was a good sci-fi flick, altho I was high as fukk. The characters were a lil flat but it didn't matter much, the main focus is this creature growing and killing them off as they try to figure out how to stop/kill it. Calvin wasn't fukking around :whew:

That ending was crazy, somehow I didn't see it coming but it seems so obvious when I think back on it. Anyway 7/10

new rule of thumb, if your movie's title needs the word "movie" after it in its twitter hashtag, it's probably not gonna be too memorable. "Who's psyched for #LifeMovie this weekend?!"

Without even seeing the movie I predict it's simply a set up for when the alien reaches earth and begins decimating life.
