Another interesting source I found comparing the Moors with West Africans:
"The Moors here are perfectly black; the only personal distinction between them and the Negroes being, that the Moors had long black hair, and had no scars on their faces. The Negroes are in general marked in the same manner as those of Tombuctoo." - The narrative of Robert Adams: an American sailor, who was wrecked on the western coast of Africa, in the year 1810, was detained three years in slavery by the Arabs of the Great Desert, and resided several months in the City of Tombuctoo. With a map, notes and an appendix (1817).
This lady IS the most KNOWLEDGEABLE person on the Moors. Listen to her and not these clown ass Youtube Hoteps who think the Berbers were white while trying to claim the Moors as Black.
^She actually knows what she is talking about.
one "mystery" I've yet to have uncovered is what can explain thus fascination European people globally had for the Moors, to the point noble families from all over started to represent them in something as important as their coats of arm? When the Moors represented a potential invaders for them?
I saw a theory that explained that there may have been commercial exchanges happening between european Moor structures and regions they weren't beefing with, in France notably. Maybe it comes from here.
I also peeped how some historians try to paint these heraldic representations as slaves, saying that the white fabric they wear around the head represented a liberated slave, clumsily implying families view this symbol as being synonymous with freedom
