Vincent Armstrong

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Toledo man on Thursday admitted his guilt in a plot where he and his girlfriend planned to use explosives and guns for a mass murder.

Vincent Armstrong, 23, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to transport or receive an explosive with intent to kill, injure, or intimidate any individual, and maliciously damage or destroy by fire or explosive. The FBI arrested he and Elizabeth Lecronin December for a plot they started forming in April, according to court records.

Both planned to attack an unnamed Toledo bar, and the couple bought a gun and parts for makeshift bombs, according to Armstrong’s plea agreement. The FBI previously said Lecron was also involved in a plot to blow up a pipeline in Georgia.

The couple was interested in mass murderers
and cited diary entries and posts on the social media website Tumblr as evidence of the interest, according to federal prosecutors. Lecron even corresponded with Dylann Roof, a South Carolina man who killed nine worshippers at a church in 2015, authorities said.

Agents said the plot against a second-floor Toledo bar was halted after someone found Lecron’s diary and confronted them.

As the couple planned the attack, they also bought clothing to emulate the two shooters who opened fire at Columbine High School in Colorado in 1999, according to the plea agreement.

Armstrong entered his plea in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge James Knepp in Toledo. He faces between five and 20 years in federal prison. Prosecutors agreed to drop other charges a grand jury brought against him in January.

A sentencing date has not been set. Armstrong’s attorney Adam Nightingale said he had no comment on behalf of his client.

State and federal authorities investigated the couple for several months prior to their arrests. Someone filed a complaint with police in June 2018 that said Lecron and Armstrong expressed a desire to commit an attack, according to court filings.

Armstrong’s plea agreement says the couple met in February 2018, started dating a few months later and moved in together. It didn’t take long before Lecron shared her interest in mass murders and introduced him to the “True Crime Community,” which operated across several social media sites and glorified mass murderers, the agreement states.

Lecron used the Tumblr profile names “ligaturemarkings” and “charlestonchurchmiracle,” while Armstrong used “societysheretic," the agreement says. Their interest spread far beyond social media, as the couple visited Columbine High School in August 2018, the plea agreement states.

The pair referred to their planned attack as “D-day.” The idea was to use guns and explosives. Armstrong owned an AK-47 rifle, and they bought a shotgun and went to the shooting range to practice, the agreement states.

Lecron also showed Armstrong a website with instructions on how to make bombs, and Armstrong printed out the instructions. Armstrong also started buying pieces for the bombs, according to the agreement.

They agreed to tell others that they were merely “role playing” if they got caught
, Armstrong’s agreement says.

Agents searched the couple’s home when they were in Colorado and found an AK-47, handguns, ammunition and end caps that Armstrong bought that can be used to make pipe bombs. They also found Lecron and Armstrong’s journals, which contained entries about a violent attack, prosecutors previously said.

During a separate search in December, when both were arrested, agents found guns, ammunition, a gas mask and instructions on how to build bombs, according to court filings.

Armstrong used the line about “role playing” when agents interviewed him, but later admitted the plan was real.

Lecron has pleaded not guilty to the conspiracy, weapons and violent crime charges she faces. Federal prosecutors said she talked about another attack, separate from the one with her boyfriend, to blow up part of a pipeline that she had called a “cancer.”

Armstrong’s guilty plea comes after Connor Betts, 24, opened fire in a popular entertainment district in Dayton on Sunday, killing nine people and injuring 27 others, officials said. Among the victims was Connor Betts’ younger sister Megan Betts.

The FBI has opened an investigation and said Betts explored “very specific violent ideologies” before carrying out his attack, according to the Dayton Daily News.

“This week should show all Ohioans the threats that are ever present in our communities,” Toledo police Chief George Kral said in a news release announcing Armstrong’s plea.

“With this plea, a dangerous potential mass murderer will be off our streets.”

It’s gonna get worse hell I wouldn’t be surprised in 25-30 years from now the country has a civil war. White men insecurity is gonna get worse and worse in the coming years. Demographic changes are gonna change the political map. States like Virginia, Florida will be solid blue. And states like Texas and Georgia will be swing states. A lot of these white men will see their votes don’t matter and will take further action. Yo already see the beginning of it. Militia movement, a lot of white cops and ex military are conservative and feel like they are losing their country, they go to social media sites, forums and watch YouTube vids that is basically echo chambers of their paranoia and radicalism. Federal law enforcement policy of treating these groups with kid gloves or flat out ignore them is gonna lead to a major blowback that this country won’t recover.
In the coming decades debt crisis will lead to draconian budget cuts, increased poverty, wealth gap worsen, automation, declining white birth rates, climate change is all a perfect storm of what’s to come. When white men see that voting doesn’t work for them then they will take it to the guns to wage war. It’s gonna happen. Trump is the last gasp of white supremacy in this country. They aren’t going without a fight.

I believe this will escalate worldwide, we already see the fascism rising in europe and spreading through south america.

A war will be a matter of time.

A black man was about to buy a cop’s house. Then, he found a KKK application in a bedroom.

'So disturbing': Couple describes finding KKK application on wall of police officer's house

A couple touring homes in Holton, Mich., made an unsettling discovery Aug. 7 in the house of a Muskegon police officer. (WZZM 13)
By Timothy Bella
August 9 at 5:46 AM
The Confederate flag place mat on the dining room table was Rob Mathis’s first hint that something was off inside the home he was thinking of buying.

“I thought to myself, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if this was a Klansman’s house?’” said Mathis, who is black.

Previously, Mathis and his wife, Reyna, had been ready to make an offer on the five-bedroom home they viewed on Wednesday in Holton, Mich., a small township of less than 3,000 people in Muskegon County. They thought the house on the 22-acre wooded lot about an hour outside of Grand Rapids, Mich., would give them enough space to entertain their children and grandchildren. Then, Mathis walked into the NASCAR-decorated garage to see not one but two Confederate flags in what his wife would tell him was the home of a police officer, MLive reported.

When the family and their real estate agent went upstairs to check out one of the bedrooms, Mathis and his son noticed a lone wooden plaque holding an aged, yellowed document. Once the father and son got closer, they were disgusted to realize what they were looking at: an application to the Ku Klux Klan.

“I said, ‘Oh my God, let’s go and get out of here right now,’ ” said Mathis, an Army veteran, in an interview with WZZM.

Walking through a home of a police officer with KKK memorabilia rattled Mathis, who struggled to grapple with what he’d seen in the “Klan house.”

The application for citizenship for the KKK that was recently found at the home of a Michigan police officer.
“I feel sick to my stomach knowing that I walk to the home of one of the most racist people in Muskegon hiding behind his uniform and possibly harassing people of color and different nationalities,” Mathis wrote in a Facebook post late Wednesday.

In response, Muskegon announced on Thursday that the police department had opened an internal investigation “after a social media post was brought to our attention accusing an officer of being in possession of certain items associated with a white supremacy group.” The local government wrote in a Facebook post that the police officer was “immediately placed on administrative leave, pending a thorough investigation.”

The home’s owner was identified by local media as Charles Anderson, a 48-year-old white officer.

“The City of Muskegon requests your patience as we thoroughly investigate this issue,” the city said.

My wife and I have been house shopping for a little over a month now; searching houses in Sterling Heights, GrandRapids,...

Posted by Rob Mathis on Wednesday, August 7, 2019
The police department could not be reached for comment late Thursday. Anderson, a longtime Muskegon police officer who was cleared of fatally shooting a black man in 2009, offered a brief response to the allegations to MLive.

“They said not to talk about it. That’s what they told me,” Anderson said to MLive. “Because it’s under internal investigation they said not to make a statement.”

The police officer’s wife, Racheal, told WOOD that she rejected the question of whether her husband was a member of the KKK.

“No, he’s not, no, no,” she said, chuckling. She added: “He can’t say anything right now, I wish we could because it would probably set a lot of things straight.”

The incident in Michigan comes amid a recent uptick in law enforcement and government agencies, from St. Louis police to the State Department, addressing allegations of officers and other officials accused of promoting white supremacy, racism or violence.

By the time he exited the police officer’s home around 3 p.m. Wednesday, Mathis said he felt violated by the open displays of racism. The couple was told the homeowner collected antiques like the ones inside the home, but the Mathis family maintains that the cop knew exactly what he was doing in showing off pieces of KKK and Confederate memorabilia.

“It was basically also telling me that he only [wanted] whites only to purchase his home,” he said to MLive. “People who had that type of hate in their heart, he wanted those people.”

His wife, Reyna Mathis, who is Hispanic, recalled the situation as “uncomfortable.” She said her family collects items from the Detroit Red Wings and the University of Michigan because they are proud of those affiliations, which is why she questions how he could keep racist items up in his home if he didn’t associate with them, according to WOOD.

“He didn’t know if blacks or whites or whoever was walking in there, but he left it there proudly,” she said to MLive.

Explaining to their daughter what was unfolding at the Holton house was perhaps the most difficult part of the experience, the mother said to WZZM.

“I was just angry, and my daughter started asking questions and she’s only 12,” she said.

The discovery of Anderson’s racist collection has cast new light on a nearly decade-old fatal shooting. Anderson was pursuing 23-year-old Julius Johnson during a traffic stop on Sept. 23, 2009. According to the findings of an investigation from the county’s prosecutor, Johnson beat Anderson in the head, which caused the police officer, who said he feared for his life, to shoot and kill the black man. Johnson’s sister, Tunisia Phillips, initially told investigators that she heard her brother beg for his life before Anderson shot him, according to WOOD.

The prosecutor later cleared Anderson of wrongdoing and eventually charged Phillips with lying to police, prompting protests from Johnson’s family and the NAACP, according to MLive. Eric Hood, the president of the Muskegon County chapter of the NAACP, has now called for a comprehensive look at Anderson’s dealings with people of color, WOOD reported.

“We want a thorough investigation to be sure that when he goes out there and puts on that uniform and performs his duties as an officer that he’s being fair and impartial,” he said to the outlet.

It wasn’t an easy decision for the Mathises to publicize their experience. Reyna Mathis worried about their family’s safety, but was eventually convinced by her husband that they needed to speak out, resulting in an overwhelming response on social media.

“I hope for the community, if his intentions aren’t good, he does not need to be a police officer,” she said to WZZM. “We, and all minorities, are in harms way if that’s the case.”

Rob Mathis said the public deserves to know exactly why a police officer owned a KKK application.

“You can’t serve your community and be a racist,” he told MLive. “You can’t protect one group of people.”

Armed Trump supporter detained and released at El Paso immigrant center

Armed Trump supporter detained and released at El Paso immigrant center
People at the community center are still “terrified” and “frustrated,” a center employee told NBC News.

An armed Trump supporter was detained and released by police Wednesday outside a community space for immigrants in El Paso, Texas, days after a mass shooting that killed 22 people at a Walmart in the border town.

Witnesses said they called police after Thomas Bartram, 21, made threatening comments to people and brandished a knife while sitting in his truck outside the community center Casa Carmelita. His truck was emblazoned with pro-Trump banners and bumper stickers promoting InfoWars, a far-right conspiracy website and radio show.

“Central patrol officers responded to a suspicious subject at the 900 block of Stanton near Casa Carmelita,” the El Paso Police Department tweeted Thursday. “The subject was detained, interviewed and released after it was determined that no criminal offense had been committed.”

Video of the incident, recorded by a witness from the roof of Casa Carmelita and viewed by NBC News, shows Bartram wearing blue latex gloves as police search him.

Other community members posted photos they had taken earlier in the day of Bartram attending vigils for the victims of the massacre, which targeted Hispanic immigrants, according to a racist screed allegedly written by the gunman.

Reached by phone, Bartram said he often went to Trump rallies, but said he tried to be respectful of the high tensions in El Paso following the shootings — though he said he could not rule out the possibility that the massacre had been a “false flag” perpetrated by the government.

Bartram acknowledged he was legally carrying a pistol but denied waving it around, and said the gloves and knife could be explained. “I was eating prickly pears,” he said. The white powder was a protein supplement Bartram said he takes along with other Alex Jones’ branded nutritional supplements.

Bartram is no longer in El Paso but on his way to Portland, Oregon, to attend a protest that local officials have warned is expected to turn violent.

"People can interpret my political opinion outside what they are; that’s their right,” he said. “But I’m definitely not a white supremacist.” :mjlol:

Ana Deveze, of Casa Carmelita, told NBC News that police also recovered a loaded gun, ammunition and a bag of white powder from the man's truck. She said people at the community center are still “terrified” and “frustrated.” Deveze said El Paso police officers were confrontational with the witnesses and eventually told them Bartram hadn’t broken any laws.

The El Paso police did not respond to an NBC News request for comment.

Bartram had been featured in a Washington Examiner article Wednesday. The article included a photo of Bartram making a hand signal often used by white supremacists and standing alongside his truck, the back of which was covered with a banner of Trump dressed as Rambo and a bumper sticker of George Washington that reads “Me and my homies woulda been stacking bodies by now.”

“It seemed like the right thing to do, to come out and support Trump,” Bartram is quoted saying in the article.

Bartram is an active member of the InfoWars community forum, commenting under his own name and linked to a YouTube account where he posted two videos. One video shows him walking around with a flag in support of "open carry" laws and the other is of an unknown man appearing at a vigil for a woman murdered in May.

Bartram’s brother, Alex Bartram, 27, told NBC News in a phone interview that his brother had gone to El Paso with a group of Trump supporters he had been hanging out with lately.

“He’s not a violent person,” Alex Bartram said.

REVEALED: DOJ blocked report showing white supremacists responsible for all race-based domestic terrorism incidents in 2018
Published 4 hours ago on August 9, 2019
4-6 minutes
The Trump administration has known since at least April that alleged white supremacists were responsible for every single act of race-based domestic terrorism in the U.S. in 2018, yet not only took no action to combat the growing right wing violent extremism, but actually substantially reduced or even eliminated funding and programs that combat white supremacist extremism, violence, and terrorism – and then blocked the data from reaching the hands of Congress.

“Domestic Terrorism in 2018,” a document (embedded below) prepared by the State of New Jersey’s Office of Homeland Security Preparedness, “shows 25 of the 46 individuals allegedly involved in 32 different domestic terrorism incidents were identified as white supremacists,” Yahoo News’ Jana Winter and Hunter Walker report.

That document finds there were “32 domestic terrorist attacks, disrupted plots, threats of violence, and weapons stockpiling by individuals with a radical political or social agenda who lack direction or influence from foreign terrorist organizations in 2018.”

The report was “circulated” throughout the U.S. Dept. of Justice “and around the country in April just as members of the Senate pushed the DOJ to provide them with precise information about the number of white supremacists involved in domestic terrorism.”

The Justice Department, under President Trump’s hand-picked Attorney General Bill Barr, refused to hand over the data or the document to Congress.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) in January of 2019 had already compiled a report, announcing that, “Right-Wing Extremism Linked to Every 2018 Extremist Murder in the U.S., ADL Finds.”

ADL reported that “Right-wing extremists were linked to at least 50 extremist-related murders in the United States in 2018, making them responsible for more deaths than in any year since 1995, according to new data from the ADL.”

1995 was the year domestic terrorist Timothy McVeigh blew up the Oklahoma City federal building, slaughtering 168 people and injuring more than 680 others.

“The tally represents a 35 percent increase from the 37 extremist-related murders in 2017,” ADL reported, “making 2018 the fourth-deadliest year on record for domestic extremist-related killings since 1970. Last year saw the highest percentage of right-wing extremist-related killings since 2012, the last year when all documented killings were by right-wing extremists.”

Why the Dept. of Justice and the White House blocked the data from reaching Congress is now yet another investigation Congress should take up.

Here’s the document the DOJ refused to hand over to Members of the House and Senate:

The FBI Needed Child Porn Charges to Arrest a Man with "Hunting Guides" for Jews, Muslims, and Refugees

The FBI Needed Child Porn Charges to Arrest a Man with "Hunting Guides" for Jews, Muslims, and Refugees
By Tess Owen Aug 8, 2019

The FBI received a tip in January that someone was posting “hunting guides” online targeting Jews, Muslims, and refugees. Agents traced those guides, which included information like mosque and synagogue addresses, back to a 29-year-old man in Boulder, Colorado.

It wasn’t until late July, after the man, Wesley David Gilreath, left his unlocked iPhone on a bus, that he was arrested and charged with a crime. Public transit workers recovered his lost device and found “thousands of still images of pre-pubescent minor males and females, ranging in apparent ages from infants to pre-teens,” according to the federal complaint.

Last week, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Colorado announced child pornography charges against Gilreath — and noted that his arrest may have also disrupted a potential domestic terror attack or hate crime.

The case serves as yet another reminder about the limitations of the federal government when it comes to stopping potential domestic terror attacksbefore they happen. While the FBI has the authority to open up domestic terror investigations, there’s no domestic terror statute to charge a person under, which means the feds have to find alternative ways to arrest someone. The FBI even interviewed Gilreath in January — according to agents, he’d created an audio recording of the interview and labeled it “Wes Gilreath terrorism interrogation.”

“The charge in this case demonstrates that the U.S. Attorney’s Office and our federal and state law enforcement partners will use every available law enforcement tool not just to prosecute federal crimes but also to disrupt and prevent potential hate crimes,” U.S. Attorney Jason Dunn said in a statement.

On Tuesday, federal magistrate judge Scott Varholak ordered that Gilreath remain in detention pending the outcome of the case and described him as a potential flight risk. The judge also said he posed an ongoing danger to the community.

“He had searches for a book that is a guide to gaining children’s trust,” Varholak wrote. “He also had numerous white supremacist documents and paraphernalia.”

Varholak also noted that Gilreath had tried and failed to purchase a gun in May. According to federal documents, he’d filled out ATF form 4473, which is required for all gun purchases. It’s not clear why his purchase didn’t go through, but the form asks potential gun buyers about criminal records, restraining orders, and whether they’ve been committed to a mental institution.

News of Gilreath’s arrest comes as the U.S. is especially on edge, following a string of mass shootings and domestic terror threats. The recent uptick in mass violence has renewed calls from lawmakers and federal law enforcement for the creation of a domestic terror law.

The shortcomings of terrorism laws were also brought to light earlier this year, when federal authorities arrested Christopher Hasson, a U.S. Coast Guard Lieutenant, who they said was planning a large-scale attack in the name of white nationalism and had a hit list of lawmakers and journalists. But Hasson was only charged with gun and drug charges, related to his habit of ordering synthetic opioids from Mexico.

Norway mosque shooting: Man opens fire on Al-Noor Islamic Centre

Police say the suspect appears to have acted alone
A man has been arrested in Norway after a shooting inside a mosque left one person injured.

Police say a gunman opened fire on the Al-Noor Islamic Centre, near the capital Oslo, on Saturday.

The suspect has not been named, but police have described him as a "young white man".

The mosque's director told local media that the victim was a 75-year-old member of the congregation.

"One of our members has been shot by a white man with a helmet and uniform," Irfan Mushtaq told local newspaper Budstikka.

He later told local channel TV2 that the attacker had "carried two shotgun-like weapons and a pistol. He broke through a glass door and fired shots."

The gunman, who wore body armour, was overpowered by people at the mosque before police arrived at the scene, Mr Mushtaq added.

Oslo Police confirmed the attack on Twitter, saying: "One person is shot. The severity of that person's injuries is unknown. One suspect is arrested".

They said the suspect appears to have acted alone.

Police sources told public broadcaster NRK that several weapons were found inside the mosque, located in the town of Baerum, following the shooting.

The mosque had previously implemented extra security measures after a gunman killed 51 people at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, earlier this year, according to Reuters news agency.
