In 01'-02' he was over as hell, he was getting face pops the moment he stepped foot in the company, he was apart of the Alliance and it didn't even matter. 2002 i felt was the year WWE was suppose to pull the trigger and make RVD the next guy. Austin had walked out and Rock was part-time at that point.
I think that if RVD was a "WWE guy" instead of an ECW export he would have got the run that he deserved. I always felt that for the most part, Vince never really wants to push guys that he didn't help in establishing their character. Since RVD already had a fan base and following in ECW prior to joining WWE it hurt him imo.
I use to be a big RVD mark, and i remember being pissed that he got beat by Lesnar in the KOTR Finals in 02', because that year, the winner of the King Of the Ring automatically got a main event WWE title shot at Summerslam.
Yea he would eventually get the WWE title in 06' but lets be real, by that point his time was already up, he wasn't even the
#3 guy let alone
#1 , it was all about Cena, Edge and Triple H
