In 01'-02' he was over as hell, he was getting face pops the moment he stepped foot in the company, he was apart of the Alliance and it didn't even matter. 2002 i felt was the year WWE was suppose to pull the trigger and make RVD the next guy. Austin had walked out and Rock was part-time at that point.

I think that if RVD was a "WWE guy" instead of an ECW export he would have got the run that he deserved. I always felt that for the most part, Vince never really wants to push guys that he didn't help in establishing their character. Since RVD already had a fan base and following in ECW prior to joining WWE it hurt him imo.

I use to be a big RVD mark, and i remember being pissed that he got beat by Lesnar in the KOTR Finals in 02', because that year, the winner of the King Of the Ring automatically got a main event WWE title shot at Summerslam.

Yea he would eventually get the WWE title in 06' but lets be real, by that point his time was already up, he wasn't even the #3 guy let alone #1 , it was all about Cena, Edge and Triple H :snoop: :(

I agree. RVD was red smoking hot in 2001 heading into 2002. More than Cena was during his rapper stuff when he didn't get heat. He was going strong but something happened. Cripple H returned. Then his booking was never the same. He was nearly unstoppable..Austin put him over clean, Rock, Angle, Taker, Jericho in every match, Edge, Christian, Kane. He went over the whole fukking roster and then look at his spot at WM 18:laugh: A damn shame. And I never liked how they pushed Lesnar over him that year either...he was legit with fans and they wanted him on top. He was chosen by the paying public and didn't need a political push to top tier level like Lesnar got out of nowhere that summer. It at all worked out in the end though because Lesnar EVENTUALLY started working like a maineventer by the Undertaker feud.

well maybe if he was more dependable instead of a dope head he would have gotten that run

we all know what happened when they finally did give him the title
it only proved to show he cant be trusted in that #1 spot

Uh no. That happened like 5 years after he debuted. He stopped giving a fukk, because as Charisma said, he was not a WWE guy. He was in there carrying Raw on his back in 03, feuding with Triple H, Flair, etc...His turn against Triple H, is the highest bought RAW PPV out of all those one and done guys Triple H went though in 02/03 (Kane, Steiner, etc...)

By the time RVD got the belt, the idea of him being a company guy was long gone. But they call this "The Business" for a reason, I guess. You gotta eat shyt to get that top spot, and in the era of Triple H Always Wins, you damn well better be on your shyt. I remember the RAW when Haitch put RVD over clean with the 5 Star. Any nikkas on the come up that puts down a main eventer with their finisher is the sign they ready.

But, nikka wasn't on his shyt, and was more about YOLO than Livestrong :yeshrug:
