what makes it so shytty is the lack of console exclusives....having a SNES and a Genesis were DRASTICALLY different gaming experiences

This gen brought many terrible business practices that are going to be here for while. Companies charging people for on disc dlc for example is ridiculous. Not to mention, certain companies (Square and Capcom) who were piff in the past seem to have gotten worse this gen.

Despite the great games we've received this gen, I can't disagree with the thread title.

:wtf:

The same capcom that charged 75 bucks a pop to add 4 characters and sometimes none in the past Street Fighter games?

People in here crying about dlc when in the past that was just content that you would never see. Do you know how many games have hidden levels and characters people have found that the developers just stopped working on but left on the cart?

We were paying 60-70 bucks for short ass games back in the day with no real replay value or online play. Yeah the ending to ME3 sucked but the game shyts on damn near everything we got in the past. I'm still getting burn on the multiplayer and they have been dropping free dlc consistently.

XBLA and Steam have numerous great downloadable titles. The XBLA games alone are worth the money for a 360.

I don't see why people want more exclusives. I for one don't like having to pay 500 bucks to play one or 2 games I couldn't get on my main system. If it wasn't for MGS4 I still wouldn't have a PS3. At this point I wish I had that 500.

I agree with you on the DLC argument...people were shelling out another 50 for Super Turbo when nowadays that woulda been a $12 DLC.

HOWEVER...i disagree with the satement above, there should be more than an intrinsic reason as to why i should buy one console over another. Back in the 90's exclusivity was the BEST way to do this and IMO still is. Yeah i bout a PS3 for MGS4 but i was happy to see Uncharted and games like that, BUT i hate the fact that it really didn't matter which console i got...it was all the same games.

I had a PS1 specifically to play Final Fantasy and 7,8,9 is ARGUABLY the best stretch in any series going that long. I'm glad i didn't waste my money on a Jaguar or no other crap like that it had no killer games. I bought PS2 to continue to play Final Fantasy and MGS. I wasn't disapointed...why did I need a xbox all the cool exclusives were on PS2...

Market sharing fukked up gaming...when people said lets make a marginally inferior product to sell on all consoles the game was kaput.

Why is that something you hate? Why is that a bad thing?

The GAMES ain't the best this gen GTFOH..most of the biggest games this gen have been sequels to past gen games...it was SO much more variety in past gens I don't see how anyone can think any different...I mean PS2 ALONE has had more quality games than all 3 current gen systems combined...ESPECIALLY considering the fact that the only system and even mostly releases exclusive games is PS3...shyt has NOTHING to do wit nostalgia...only genre I could say got stepped up this gen was fighting games...

Who cares what the "biggest" games were? There was so much variety, the only limiting factor is probably yourself. I got RPGs, DMC-style action games, puzzlers, adventures, platformers, metroidvanias, fighters out the ass. And each of those have very varied games within themselves. Portal is different from Catherine is different from Braid. Mirror's Edge is way different from Donkey Kong Country is different from Little Big Planet is different from Super Meat Boy is different from Mario Galaxy. Xenoblade, Valkyria Chronicles, Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, The Witcher, Lost Oddyssey. shyt even, Bulletstorm, Gears of War, Halo, Uncharted, Call of Duty, Unreal Tournament 3, Battlefield.

Variety exists. It just doesn't necessarily sell well. I'm proud to say, I'm not part of that problem.

Yup!

Finicky gamers not even attempting to broaden their horizons with actually dropping dollars on actual new IPs is why sequels drop at the rate they do know cuz they're sown of the only games making a guaranteed profit. And despite all that, there's STILL a wealth of variable games out there like you just mentioned.

It's bad because it give me no reason to buy anything else but the one console. The competition is wack so no one is really trying hard outside of a few studios. I don't think Naughty Dog would really have made Uncharted as good as it is if the resources were split between xbox and ps3 dev. Might up the money but the product isnt as good.

Ship now/Patch later is my only problem with this gen. Games get shipped incomplete and/or devs listen to whiny ass kids on the net and fukk with shyt the other half of the community has no problem with. I have 6 games in my collection that are in between patches that I'm not playing at the moment until they are done fukking wit em. Red rings was a bytch but it was temporary.

Some of the online co-op and competitive multiplayer experiences alone have trumped the fun I've had in previous gens. And anyone complaining about variety within genres or genres as a whole need to try downloadables (xbla, psn, steam, etc).

What competition are you referring to exactly? What's the result?

Solid point and maybe true to an extent but I find many multiplatform games to be better than any of the Uncharted's (Portal 2 and Arkham City for example). Maybe those games could have been even better if they were developed for only one platform... but then again, their budget would have to be smaller because they wouldn't get as many sales. And if their budget is smaller maybe the game wouldn't come out much better after all.

In any case, I've had enough reason to justify purchasing a Wii, 360 and PS3 and enjoy them all. But that's just me. I just don't think it was inherently better when each of the consoles had more exclusives.

I woudln't go as far as to say this is the worst generation, but the DLC bullshyt and the constant barrage of games that are nothing more than clones of other games is pretty bad...

Rarely these days to we get anything with a unique visual style or gameplay.

a Wii imo is a different case because the gameplay experience is totally different. Thats kinda my point with console/game variability. Playing old dreamcast was cool cuz it was the only place to get Shenmue, Powerstone, Code Veronica ect and that was fine by me...it gave people a reason to by the console...now..all the games are for everything. It does nothing but confuse the average consumer who doesn't know much about games. Why should ANYONE buy a Xbox over a PS3 when PS3 offers almost all the same games and FREE online?

Its the games thats why. Playing Shenmue or Jet Grind Radio on DC was a drastically different experience than everything else out.

Pretty soon its gonna be like the difference between a Monte Carlo and a Chevy Lumina in the 90's...there WAS no difference

OP is right, this is the least progress a gen has had I can remember, Nintendo's worst system, and the least amount of memorable and replayable games.

Virtual Boy

And if not for a small handful of Classic games N64 would be just as bad...
