That match with Zayn might be one of the most perfect introductions of all time. Easily one of the dopest debut matches anyone could ask for.

That said, it has felt like diminishing returns with every match since. Like barring the Zayn match, I'd rate them "Eh it was ok I guess" and maybe outside of the Balor match, I thought they were longer than they needed to be for what you got.

This is how I feel

Set the bar high, and he hasn't come even close to it since

Honestly I don't think he's had even a very good match since that one

I just don't like his character
But what exactly is his character? Imagine you're someone who never saw him in Japan or NXT. He's just some wiggly dude spazzing out over his dope theme. They call him an artist. Ok, so what kind of artist? Is he secretly DrX? Is he an interpretive dancer? Did he design the clothes he's wearing? He's also a rock star apparently, but I think he signed with Cash Money and doesn't have a release date yet.

I think it was Backlash, they showed an artist painting a painting and Nak was the focal point of the vignette....but it made no sense b/c they call him "the artist" and also a "rock star"

His theme is cool b/c the audience sings along, but his character is weird with all the wiggling, gyrations, etc. I just don't get it.

So lemme get this straight... he was in NXT with the same gimmick, doin' all the same shyt and all I saw for months is how he should be on the roster, "Swagamura", some of y'all even said he should be facing Taker at Mania :mjlol:... but he's been on the roster, had his debut match treated like a sight to see instead of just a random match on SD, been already positioned as a future top-level guy... and because he isn't main eventing overnight, he's suddenly a weird gimmick with a disappointing run? Lowkey, this is really why a lot of people ain't over like they should be- everybody wants everything overnight or they change their minds on the wrestler and act like their whole future as a top star is lost. Most top stars of the past would've never made it if they had to be judged by the current WWE audience's standard. Bret Hart woulda been seen as a dude who was good in Calgary but can't cut it in the WWF before he even got to tag with Neidhart. Rock woulda never gotten a chance to get off the ground and develop his character. I don't even wanna think about the opinion on Austin during his first three months on the roster. Even some of the more recent guys like Punk or Bryan- let the 'smart' fans tell it, they woulda never ended up being main eventers. Nakamura will be OK- his gimmick is strange and unusual, but if nothin' else, it stands out. Better than just coming out there and being a guy who does slick moves.

I don't think it's much to understand about his character tbh. Breh is just whacky :manny:
yeah thats true, but comin from japan theres an expectation of work rate that he should be performing to, and people that have been watching him for years in japan know that hes known for phoning it in most of the time and then coming up big when theres a great worker across from him like what happened with ibushi and okada his last few years in njpw, and of course his debut match with zayn was off the hook. if he gets a great program he can deliver, but as of now he's looking like a flop, especially with the corny way they're portraying him as. but nobody should ever have faith in wwe booking a high level talent at this stage.:pachaha:

Ion know what else WWE gotta do for ya to realize tha WWE is confident in Nak. They booked Nak like a big deal since he been wit tha company. He was NXT champ 2 times, was always main eventung, over wit fans, goes to SD, debut treated with much fanfare, wins his feud wit Ziggler, tagged wit AJ his 2nd month on SD, pinned KO CLEAN TWICE, STILL hasn't lost a match since his debut, STILL over with the fans, booked to be in the main event of MITB............

But WWE booking for him has been awful?!

Even though it doesn't apply and I should let it fly, I want to be clear about my stance. It has nothing to do with match results, card placement or accolades. It's solely my agreement with what was stated in the original post regarding his non-Zayn big matches.

As for my comments on character, it's a company wide issue and was true for him and still is for many others who got called up from NXT as well.

That's why I'm not worried even though I agree with the criticisms. Considering he hasn't had any marquee matches yet, it's not that surprising he's just coasting - I expected more from him but that's just who he is :manny: - and he can do enough to stay over thanks to his charisma. I just hope he has a legit big singles match soon so he can show what he can really do.

But that begs the question. If fighting big names like Aries, Balor, Joe and Roode (the latter two being championship matches in the main event on their big shows) aren't considered big matches, what exactly is a big match then?
