Have you ever used a fingerprint scanner that works well??? Now look at the surface area of the bottom part of the iphone. How would that work well if youre hand is bigger than a 4th graders?
I've never used one that Apple's perfected for it's mobile device, tho
There was a time that I had never seen a phone camera worth damn, or typing on a full touch screen device was far too laborious to be the only mode of input, etc.....that's how technology works. I highly doubt Apple would put the scanner on there if their implementation was as useless as Android's Face unlock, but if they do, I think we know that means....Android's scaring them.

I said THERE WAS A TIME when I didn't see a phone camera worth a damn, yet here we stand with today with camera phones that many deem good enough replace digital cameras for their purposes....that's technology for you

To be clear, I never said I thought they would do it, just that if they did do it, then it passed their QC and works well...and a working fingerprint scanner on a phone would be GREAT
Apple isn't even trying anymore. It seems like they just watch what kinda features android is pushing hard and they'll include the same shyt in iOS with an apple touch on it. With that being said I'm still gonna get an iphone 5
