Yeah they had history cuz of Un and Charli Baltimore. I’m basing this on how Jay an emotional broad who don’t like sharing the spotlight. Not to mention Big L was nicer than Jay. Jay is a moment d1ckr1der. As soon as O Boy was hit he tried to get on a remix can cut that verse out. Dude wouldn’t have wanted Big L to get them beats from Kanye and Just Blaze. Not to mention he stole Izzo beat from Cam.

If that were the case, Kanye would’ve been shelved forever after his 1st or 2nd album. You are going off of your disdain for him and what you perceive to be true instead of facts and logic.

Why would he share the spotlight with an artist who got dropped from his major label after his debut bombed?

All these other Rocafella artists got Justblaze Kanye beats why would Big L be different

Jigga couldn't make Christión pop, he wouldn't have done a goddamn thing for Big L.

Also, if Big L hated his own Harlem brethren Betha and sent a Puerto Rican on a dummy mission against him, he'd probably do the same against Hov.

So Jay Z being more successful on his own independent record label and big L flopping on a Major(Columbia) is supposed to be some Case for Big L? It’s not that he didn’t do well commercially, he got dropped.
He had no choice but to be independent no one wanted him. When you’re independent you have more freedom to make the type of music you want. Big L was signed to Columbia who didn’t know what to do with him and his production sucked

So Big L had the industry backing of a major and flopped in real time, and that’s supposed to be a n advantage for him over Jay Z? Why did RD go Gold in 3 months and Lifestyles hasn’t hit that in 30 years?

Why is the big picture only at Gold despite being released in 2000 and had all the Big L death stimulus attached to it?

I never said he would’ve been a priority over Jay-Z. I said Jay-Z wouldn’t have liked Big L on Rocafella after a while. Soon as Cam had “O Boy” and Dipset was hot in the streets. Jay got in his feelings. It really got ugly when Dame was trying to make Cam and Beans VP. It wouldn’t have been any different if L was there. I could see L ghostwriting for Bleek.

I mean, like someone pointed out, Jay and Cam already had some prior friction from what I understand. Dame probably knew that it was gonna ruffle some feathers bringing The Set to Roc-A-Fella.

Anyhow...

Californ-i-a by way of BK
Jay-Z recognized this was a business he knew how to adapt and change his flow and create songs. Big L lacked good production.
Like don't get me wrong, Big L was dead nice but he wasn't on Hov's level. That's not an insult. As far as raw talent there may be like 5 rappers ever on Hov's level for pure skill set standpoint.

Big L is nowhere near as nice as Hov

You're right, as an artist it's clearly Jay but bar for bar as a pure spitter Jay got severely embarrassed on Stretch and Bobbito. No one even remembers Jay's verses.

Separate but related: Rewind the Battle with Big L on the Roc…you got Nas going up against Jay, L, Beans, Cam, etc.

Not saying Nas would’ve gotten bodied but that woulda been some serious pressure for him dolo.

L and Nas had mutual respect way before Jay and Rocafella were a factor. Plus he was DITC before anything and Fat Joe wasn't going to let L and Nas clash. He would've remained neutral.

Cam only got involved because Nas called him out.

Beans and State Property were Rocafella artists so they had to get involved. Anyone else who had their own situation before the Roc was just a mercenary. They don't have the same level of loyalty.
