Nas would’ve needed Az and mobb deep. Cormega wasn’t really messing with Nas around that time.

Even better…what if Nas got with DMX and the Lox who were also having issues with Jay & State Property in 01-02.

Jay, Big L, Beans, Cam

VS

Nas, DMX, Jada, Styles

THAT would have been insane.

Big L was nicer than Jay. The thing that separated Jay from L and his peers was Jay had money. So he was able to leverage more than an already signed artist. When you got money you can make things happen.
Big L signed to a major, flopped, got dropped and was never heard of again :russ:

The fukk are you talking about

I mean label was rejecting Jay-Z when Dame was trying to get him a deal. What separated him from the rest Jay had money. Theirs stories of payola. Big L had a deal before Nas I believe Lifestylez didn’t do well commercially but tbh not many east coast rappers did back then not to mention Bad Boy snatched that Debarge beat for the “One More Chance Remix”. Big L was nice lyrically but didn’t crossover. He would’ve been able to on Rocafella. Dame would’ve made sure of that.

We all love L on the mic, it seems like Jay did too. He woulda been a super cool addition to the label roster.
But Jay was a superstar at that point, stop making up this narrative that L would be the commercial top dog over at The Roc who would challenge Jay. Stop it.

I never said he would’ve been a priority over Jay-Z. I said Jay-Z wouldn’t have liked Big L on Rocafella after a while. Soon as Cam had “O Boy” and Dipset was hot in the streets. Jay got in his feelings. It really got ugly when Dame was trying to make Cam and Beans VP. It wouldn’t have been any different if L was there. I could see L ghostwriting for Bleek.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Jay and Cam had friction before Cam was signed to the Roc, and Jay and Big L were always cool.

Even still, Cam said that while their beef was at it’s height, and Jay-Z was CEO/President of Def Jam, he always signed off on anything he wanted to do musically, and never tried to block him. What exactly are you basing this opinion on?

Yeah they had history cuz of Un and Charli Baltimore. I’m basing this on how Jay an emotional broad who don’t like sharing the spotlight. Not to mention Big L was nicer than Jay. Jay is a moment d1ckr1der. As soon as O Boy was hit he tried to get on a remix can cut that verse out. Dude wouldn’t have wanted Big L to get them beats from Kanye and Just Blaze. Not to mention he stole Izzo beat from Cam.

So Jay Z being more successful on his own independent record label and big L flopping on a Major(Columbia) is supposed to be some Case for Big L? It’s not that he didn’t do well commercially, he got dropped.
