Like breh tried to tell you, that's not how the cap works. The Lakers are $60 million over the cap right now, so all those guys coming off the cap only brings them a little bit under. And no, they ain't gonna sign Rui for no midlevel excemption, midlevel players don't cost three draft picks. They're going to have to pay him $10-15 million plus to retain him (his cap hold is $19 million), and at that point they'll likely have around $20 million left at most, which isn't no Kyrie salary.

Not to mention that that's letting EVERYONE off the books. Which means they'll have filled the cap with Bron, AD, Rui, and an underpaid Kyrie alone. No centers, no 3-and-Ds, and no bench. How is that going to work, especially when LeBron old as hell, AD always injured, and Kyrie never reliable to show up for work?

They have to give up on Kyrie, and really if they're committed to Rui then they gotta give up on having any meaningful cap space next year at all. I think they're pretty much screwed if they can't flip Westbrook's contract for at least a couple decent role players, ideally a 3-and-D and a big. If they can they should really try to flip Beverly and Walker's contracts as well, then resign as many as they can out of Reaves, Schroder, Gabriel, Christie, and Bryant (if they haven't already traded one or more of them when they flip the expiring contracts). It's the only way they'll have a chance to be competitive next year.
I’m not saying you’re not correct, but I was reading Hollinger this morning and he said the Lakers are positioned to have near max space this summer.

That's only if they reject Rui as well as everyone else on the roster, including guys like Reaves who they clearly want to keep. Which would mean they gave away 3 draft pics for a 3-month rental of a raw project. If they did that they'd have around $34 million, but signing Rui is expected to knock that to closer to $15 million.

At that point rejecting those salaries is an open question, because players like Reaves, Beverly, Bryant, Gabriel, etc. are actually worth something. Can you guarantee that the Lakers will be able to spend $15 million to improve on them? Unless they get a ton of perfect vets signing for the minimum, they're more likely to tread water.

It's far better to try to get something for the Westbrook/Walker/Bev salaries right now, then just accept being over the max and resign the guys you want to keep.

That makes sense. I’d say you’re right, it’s no way Kyrie is signing there

Mavs just had the better offer everything isn't a conspiracy against the Lakers. Westbrook and pics likely forces kd to demand a trade.

Now I don't believe a word that comes out of Screaming A Smiths mouth, but it's out there.. and if he gets traded... Why TF wouldn't you get more long term value aka picks from the Kyrie trade?
